ABOUT THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, re-design, deliver and assess high-quality teaching modules and programmes that comply with the required learning objectives, and the institution’s quality standards and regulations, whilst incorporating the latest subject and pedagogical advancements.
- Facilitate course sessions with students both in-person and virtually across trimesters.
- Deliver course content through a blend of interactive class sessions, one-on-one coaching, written feedback, and analytical reporting.
- Review student assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback aligned with established assessment rubrics.
- Hold weekly office hours to provide students with targeted academic support and coaching.
- Coach and mentor students throughout their academic and leadership journeys, with emphasis on trade, finance, and policy application.
- Support students in the creation, execution, and refinement of their mission-driven projects related to international trade and business.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of IBT course materials, including concept maps, learning resources, and assessments.
- Collaborate with curriculum designers and subject matter experts to update content and ensure alignment with global standards, trade trends, and regional integration frameworks (e.g., AfCFTA, SADC, EAC).
- Contribute to orientation and induction processes for new student intakes and participate in peer induction and professional development activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date definitive documentation for IBT courses, including handbooks, course guides, and programme outlines.
- Supervise the work of undergraduate students, providing them with advice on study skills, projects, fieldwork, and placements, and referring on as appropriate to services providing further assistance.
- Undertake academic advising (including personal tutoring and capstone and project supervision) duties, referring on as appropriate to other services for further assistance.
- Undertake and complete administrative duties required in the professional delivery of teaching, including regular meetings with the module and programme leads for each module taught to ensure academic delivery meets required standards.
- Engage with internal quality assurance mechanisms such as annual programme reviews, student feedback sessions, and assessment moderation processes.
- Identify students at academic risk through LMS data and other engagement indicators and initiate timely intervention strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., companies, trade organisations, and policy institutions) to enrich student learning experiences and internship opportunities.
- Identify relevant trade datasets, databases, and analytical tools to support experiential learning and applied research.
- Stay connected to local and international trade ecosystems, contributing insights to ensure the IBT programme remains future-focused and industry-aligned.
- Participate as a member of the assessment board, contributing to decisions on student progress, awards, and academic performance.
- Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the line manager to ensure the effective delivery and impact of the IBT programme.

Person Specification:
Essential
- Master’s degree in relevant fields (be ready to have a Rwandan Equivalence if the qualification is not from a Rwandan institution).
- At least two years of work experience closely related to one of the following areas:
Marketing, International Relations & Global Business
(International/ marketing, advertising, cross-cultural management, international relations, diplomacy, global business & MNEs, and supply chain).
Finance, Economics & Trade Policy
(accounting, finance, investment & venture capital, international economics, and quantitative trade law & policy analysis).
Technology, Data & Innovation
(data analytics, business statistics, business analytics, digital transformation, and technology & innovation management).
- Excellent coaching skills.
- Experience in education - crafting learning outcomes and assessments.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and presentation skills
- Mastery of English as primary learning language at ALU.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- The ability to quickly analyse data and determine the appropriate academic support intervention required by the student or to redirect to other teams.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise own work, and work independently.
- A startup mindset to help us scale the programme to the order of thousands of students in the next 12 months.
Desirable
- PhD degree in any of the highlighted areas.
- Strong regional and international network with NGOs, Startup Incubators and accelerators, etc.
- Experience in online teaching and learning delivery.
