ABOUT THE TEAM

The ALU School of Business (ALUSB) team is the engine of our post-graduate education. We are a results-driven group dedicated to delivering high-impact, market-relevant programs, including our Executive MBA and Executive Education portfolio. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Student Affairs Senior Associate for ALUSB is the primary champion and advocate for the student experience. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive, holistic support to post-graduate students, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enriching learning journey. You will lead the implementation of key student success programs, manage critical administrative and compliance functions, and act as a pivotal liaison between students, the academic team, and internal support teams (Finance, Registrar, Wellbeing). Your core objective is to foster a vibrant community and remove barriers to student success, enabling our busy executives to focus fully on their academic and professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Holistic Student Support & Guidance:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, providing responsive, accurate, and timely guidance on navigating their academic schedule, as well as personal, and professional challenges.
    • Coordinate with ALU Finance to support tuition payment management and assist students with complex logistics, such as travel arrangements for in-person intensives.
    • Act as a liaison with the ALU Student Life Counselor and Wellbeing team to ensure students have access to appropriate guidance, resources, and referrals.
  • Program Implementation & Management:
    • Oversee the implementation and evaluation of all programs designed to enhance student success, including orientation/matriculation sessions, intensives, networking events, and career initiatives.
    • Drive the successful delivery of signature student engagement events and initiatives that foster a vibrant and inclusive student and alumni community.
    • Regularly assess and enhance existing student support services, seeking innovative approaches to optimize the student experience and ensure processes are scalable.
  • Advisory, Compliance, and Data Management:
    • Offer guidance on academic planning and program requirements, collaborating closely with the ALUSB academic team to ensure timely progression.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between students, alumni, and the Registrar's Office, ensuring access to services and supporting documentation.
    • Act as a point of contact for crisis intervention, providing immediate support and appropriate referrals for students facing acute personal or academic challenges.
    • Maintain accurate records and data related to student affairs, generating reports and using data-driven insights to continuously improve services and outcomes.
    • Ensure adherence to institutional policies, laws, and regulations governing student affairs to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Sector Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in higher education, specifically within student affairs, student services, or programs management.
  • Policy and Compliance: Demonstrated familiarity with higher education policies, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to student affairs.
  • Data Proficiency: Proven ability to maintain records, generate reports, and effectively utilize data-driven insights to improve student services.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of student development theory and best practices.
  • Logistical Prowess: Strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail in overseeing day-to-day operations and executing projects effectively.
  • Location: Based in East Africa, with a strong preference for Kigali, Rwanda.

    • Program Management: Expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating student life programs and services (e.g., orientation, career events).
    • Data Analysis and Reporting: Ability to generate and utilize data-driven reports to inform decision-making and continuous service improvement.
    • Policy Adherence: Strong practical understanding of institutional policies, compliance, and risk management in a student services context.
    • Communication and Marketing: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft engaging content and utilize various communication channels.
  • Soft Skills
    • Interpersonal & Diplomacy: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, actively listen, and engage with diverse audiences in a diplomatic and effective manner.
    • Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues across departments (e.g., Finance, Academic Affairs, Wellbeing).
    • Problem-Solving & Crisis Management: Demonstrated skills in addressing complex student concerns, resolving conflicts effectively, and handling intervention situations with appropriate referrals.
    • Adaptability & Innovation: Willingness to innovate, develop creative ideas, and continuously improve services to create scalable processes.
    • Cultural Sensitivity: Sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and ability to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all post-graduate students.
