ABOUT THE ROLE

The Department of Software Engineering is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Learning Assistant Intern to support the ongoing efforts in enhancing academic quality and improving operational efficiency. This part-time role is ideal for students who are passionate about education, technology, and student success, and who are eager to contribute to meaningful projects that bridge administrative systems with learning enhancement projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal systems that support academic planning, monitoring and review, and curriculum delivery.
  • Support data collection and analysis related to academic performance, including tools for tracking at-risk and retake students.
  • Contribute to the design and refinement of dashboards or reporting tools that aid in academic decision-making.
  • Assist faculty and academic staff in maintaining course materials, learning resources, and digital workflows.
  • Help coordinate and support academic initiatives such as course reviews, teaching evaluations, and learning innovation projects.
  • Provide administrative support for departmental meetings, documentation, and student engagement tracking.
  • Participate in regular team check-ins and contribute to process improvements related to academic operations and student support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in the Software Engineering programme at ALU
  • Strong professional, critical thinking and analytical skills with attention to details
  • Proficiency in basic programming or scripting (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and/or working knowledge of spreadsheet and data tools.
  • Familiarity with academic systems (e.g., LMS platforms, student tracking tools, version control systems).
  • Passionate about education, curriculum development and student support systems.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in data visualization or reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Exposure to learning analytics or academic performance tracking tools.
  • Understanding of academic processes such as assessments, grading, and feedback workflows.

Eligibility

  • Open to all Year-3 students with no current academic backlogs  in the BSE programme
  • Must be available to work up to 15 hours per week during the May–September 2025 period.

Conditions

The selected candidate should sign a Non Disclosure Agreement as part of the contracting process and to adhere to institutional regulations tied with the internship responsibilities.
