First, a Confession...
This regional leadership role has taken on many iterations of what it is before we honed in on the job description and profile described below. We’ve gone back and forth on whether we wanted first and foremost a beekeeping expert, an operator or a charismatic customer facing lead before deciding we need someone who does it all. What this means is that you will probably see yourself in parts of this while missing other parts of this profile. That's ok! We’re casting a wide net because this is arguably one of the most important roles we hire and we’re looking for the right person/ attitude more than the right experiences. If you see yourself in the following description or get excited by the expectations of this role, please apply! We’d love to meet you.
We're looking for a Territory Lead to guide our California market, facilitating smooth beekeeping service delivery for 185 customers. We work with local beekeepers in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and as far as Las Vegas, and we're looking for an on-the-ground operator who can hold and expand our services in this region. You'll be the link between our customers, our network of beekeepers, and Alvéole HQ. Your role will be to deepen relationships with existing customers, coordinate and dispatch beekeepers, ensure the quality of our service on the ground, and help grow the region by bringing our beekeeping and sustainability programs to more clients. Oh and did I mention you’ll also do a bit of beekeeping yourself?
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving problems in the field, and turning a big-picture vision into great local execution and we’re looking for people either based in San Francisco or Los Angeles.
🌍 Location & Work Setup
Location: Based in San Francisco or Los Angeles, California. This is a field-based role requiring regular travel across the territory to visit clients, support local beekeepers, and oversee service delivery.
Type of contract: Permanent, Full-time (40h/week)
Compensation: $75,000 - $88,000
🧩 What Actually Makes This Job Hard
- Beekeeping = Organized Chaos: Beekeeping in California is no small feat. The season is long, and you'll be overseeing operations across dramatically different climates and conditions. You'll have knowledgeable local beekeepers to learn from and collaborate with, but it's up to you to bring everything together and help deliver a great season for every customer. Planning ahead is essential to deliver the best service possible, but flexibility to alter your plan at the last minute is even more so.
- You’ll be the bridge between Alveole HQ, our beekeepers and our clients. Our headquarters is in Montreal, Canada, so your manager and many of your colleagues will be working in a different time zone and far from the realities of your day-to-day operations. Your customers, beekeepers, and colleagues will all need things from you throughout the day. You'll need to communicate clearly, share local context, and use your judgment to make decisions that work for your region and your customers.
- Nothing is tailored specifically to “you”. Our services are designed to work across a wide range of locations and customers, but not every situation will fit neatly into an existing process. You'll need to adapt our approach to local conditions, understand what your customers need, and find practical ways to make our programs successful on the ground.
🎯 What You'll Own
- Own the training, development and dispatching of various beekeepers in their urban beekeeping journey. This can range from eager new beekeepers to experienced rural beekeeping experts. Both need different kinds of support to do this kind of work.
- Own the service delivery quality on the ground for upwards of 200 customers.
- Own the customer relationships within your region (with support from field beeks + customer support team)
- Support the growth of your region, both in quantity of customers and depth of their services and engagement on site.
💛 You'll Probably Love This Job If...
- You’re a natural leader and love getting your hands dirty and doing the work.
- You live to solve for your clients. We do everything in our power to make this project work for our clients and make their experience as smooth as possible.
- You believe that people will protect the things they love, and everyone is one great experience away from loving bees and nature.
- You have a deep respect and appreciation for agriculture workers, farmers, and communities. Your day-to-day will be bridging the gaps between their reality and our customers.
- You’d rather be given the destination with signs to get there than a perfect map.
- You're fast-paced, take calls on the fly, and love to problem-solve.
🚫 This Probably Isn't For You If...
- You’re looking for a strict 9-5. There will be travel, and bees don’t always follow the work week. If a client has a swarm after hours or on a weekend, you will be accountable to help with a quick response.
- You’re afraid of the phone (your beekeepers and clients will call, and we prioritize in-person and live-time communication above all types of communication)
- You’re looking for remote/ desk work - this job will be frequently outside and with bees!
🔎 What We're Looking For
- Beekeeping Experience: Hands-on experience keeping bees, with a deep interest in treating every colony as a learning opportunity.
- Exceptional Communication: The ability to speak confidently in front of large crowds and distill complex biological concepts on the fly. A charisma that will get our clients feeling excited about their program and invested in urban nature.
- Someone field ready and hands-on : Someone who likes to go out and get the work done themselves. You’ll still have to deliver workshops and travel throughout your California market.
🐝 What's in It for You?
🌱 Make a real impact: Help bring nature closer to people while leading the delivery and growth of our urban beekeeping and biodiversity programs across California.
💰 Competitive compensation package
🏥 Comprehensive health benefits from Day 1
🌴 Generous and flexible PTO policy
🎉 Online and in-person company events to connect with colleagues across our different markets.
📱 Phone stipend to help cover your work-related mobile expenses.
