ABOUT THE ROLE
In 2025, ALX aims to graduate 400,000 learners across all programs. To support this initiative, the team needs interns to serve as Community Ambassadors to support the program rollout and provide high-touch personalized support - spurring learner engagement on the community platform and offering learner support on the selected learning platform.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Program & Community team across four key areas: program support, content creation, community moderation, and event management. As a Community Ambassador, your primary responsibility is to help build and maintain a highly engaged and satisfied community that accelerates the career development of our participants. You will serve as a representative of ALX on the community platform, ensuring a positive learner experience while also supporting the team’s efforts to engage, inform, and retain learners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications:
- Collaborate with the team to create weekly communications, including emails, community posts, and city team nudges via SMS, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
- Support the posting of updates in assigned community spaces to ensure learners are consistently informed about program requirements.
- Contribute to the weekly newsletters highlighting key updates and announcements to engage and inform learners
Event management:
- Organize and host various program events, including onboarding & graduation sessions, live support sessions, and any other ad-hoc live sessions.
- Ensure smooth logistics and engagement in events, while supporting learners with relevant updates and resources.
Community Engagement & Moderation:
- Manage and moderate community spaces, ensuring smooth onboarding for learners and helping them navigate the platform with ease.
- Ensure all community interactions align with the code of conduct, monitoring conversations to maintain a positive, supportive environment.
- Flag issues raised by learners and provide troubleshooting assistance, escalating more complex issues to relevant team members or stakeholders for resolution.
- Foster a sense of community and connection within the community, in line with the ALX Community 3.0 structure
Learner Retention:
- Proactively identify learners who may be at risk of disengagement or dropping out and initiate timely interventions to re-engage them.
- Develop creative strategies to encourage continuous learner participation, providing motivational support and addressing potential barriers to success.
- Work closely with the program team to design & implement retention-focused initiatives, such as personalized check-ins or peer mentorship programs, aimed at improving overall program completion rates.
- Regularly track engagement metrics to identify trends and insights, adjusting support strategies as needed to maintain a high level of learner retention.
Learner Engagement & Support:
- Respond to program and curriculum-related questions in the community spaces, ensuring learners’ concerns are addressed promptly.
- Contribute to the development of a dynamic FAQ section in the Knowledge Base for learners to easily access answers to common questions.
- Encourage increased learner participation and engagement using innovative approaches and engagement prompts.
- Escalate persistent or unresolved issues to the program team for further support and resolution.
Program Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Assist in gathering feedback through surveys, interviews, and observational data to inform ongoing program design and delivery improvements.
Program Support:
- Support the core program team with operational tasks, including event coordination, learner troubleshooting, and maintaining feedback loops.
- Assist with managing tasks and processes that enhance program delivery while ensuring efficient operations.
- Take initiative in suggesting creative improvements to streamline operations and enhance learner engagement.
- Assist in onboarding new interns to ensure they are seamlessly integrated into the team and have the necessary tools and knowledge to contribute effectively, helping to maintain smooth operational workflows.
KPIs
- Learning Management System Show Up rate: 95% (learners who log into the learning platform)
- Activation Rate: 80% (learners who submit the first week’s assignment).
- Graduation rate: 50% (learners who meet all the graduation requirements)
- Program Net Promoter Score: 70 (learners who would recommend the program to their peers)
- Program CSAT (customer satisfaction): 80% (learners who are satisfied with their experience in the program)
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Community Enthusiasts - previous experience building and managing strong online communities
- Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
- Event planning & management experience
- Great teamwork skills: a good collaborator
- Humility and openness to feedback
- Adaptability
- Past experience with ALX programs (as a learner or in a supportive capacity) would be beneficial
Due to the considerable amount of virtual working and interaction with colleagues and customers in different physical locations internationally, it is essential that the successful applicant has the drive and ethic to succeed working in small teams physically but in larger efforts virtually. Self-drive to communicate constantly using web collaboration and video conferencing is essential. As an employee, you will be encouraged to continually develop your capability & attain certifications to reflect your growth as an individual.
