ABOUT THE ROLE

ALX is seeking an Alumni Community Associate to help build a thriving, engaged alumni network in South Africa. This role is ideal for someone passionate about relationship building, community development, and career advancement for our graduates.

The Alumni Community Associate will primarily focus on cultivating meaningful relationships with alumni (80%) while supporting broader community initiatives (20%). You will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with alumni, understanding their career progression, connecting them with resources and opportunities, and gathering valuable insights to strengthen our alumni ecosystem.

We are seeking a dynamic Junior Fellow with 2-3 years of experience to support our team in alumni relationship management and community development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Management (80%)

  • Engage Alumni Daily: Conduct one-on-one calls to build relationships with alumni, understand their needs, and encourage ongoing engagement with ALX.
  • Data Collection & Insights: Maintain accurate alumni data (career progress, skills, interests) in ALX’s CRM and use insights to inform internal teams.
  • Strategic Outreach: Proactively reach out to alumni to map their career journeys, update records, and identify potential opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with talent to identify their career aspirations, special skills and areas of interest.
  • Fellowship Support: Support the fellowship team with the roll-out of Fellowship events.
  • Knowledge sharing: Share institutional knowledge of Call campaigns and RCRM with SA stakeholders

Community Development (20%)

  • Alumni Engagement Initiatives: Support the development of alumni networking groups, mentorship programs, and community-building efforts.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in planning and executing alumni events, workshops, and career networking sessions.
  • Hub Utilization & Engagement: Coordinate activities that bring alumni together at the ALX Hub

REQUIREMENTS

Must have:

  • 2-3 years of experience in relationship management, community building, program coordination, or a related field.
  • Active listening and empathy – you genuinely care about alumni success and can tailor conversations to their needs.
  • Analytical thinking abilities to identify trends and insights from alumni interactions. 
  • Occasional weekend availability for key alumni events.
  • Previous experience in a contact center, CRM-based role, or customer success function.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace applications.
  • Experience in educational institutions or workforce development programs.
