ABOUT THE ROLE

ALX Africa is now looking for an experienced Senior Data Analyst to join our data, analytics and BI team. A Senior Data Analyst is a key contributor to the ALX operation, and shall be responsible for leveraging their advanced data skills to solve complex business problems and drive data-driven decision-making within our organisation and those of our clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, machine learning and data analysis, along with a proven track record of delivering impactful insights and solutions.

As the Senior Data Analyst, you will be responsible for: 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and improve upon your knowledge of advanced analytics, communicating data, domain modelling, data governance research ethics, and AI Ethics with the willingness to up-skill others in these competencies.
  • Support the ALX teams as an ALX data expert. Co-design, and suggest metrics and data sets that help the ALX teams (administration, learning delivery, learning design, etc.) understand the state of the ecosystem so they can make data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, specifically non-technical teams, to apply domain-driven design, and develop data models to help solve the business’ problems, ensuring that models are integrated into products and services.
  • Build and maintain ALX domain data models within the ALX ecosystem to support the ALX data products, such as a Data warehouse, Dashboards, ad-hoc analyses, reports etc.
  • Support the ALX technical team as an ALX data expert. Apply your knowledge of all platforms’ operational data to facilitate problem-solving, and strategy. The technical team members have knowledge specific to their product.
  • Mentor intern/junior data analysts, data engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

REQUIREMENTS - ESSENTIAL

  • Fluent in SQL and Python with experience with at least one cloud provider’s data services; preferably AWS.
  • Qualified experience in a related field, including, but not limited to, Data Science, Business Intelligence & Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics and business intelligence (or related field), with a strong track record of independent research and development.
  • Strong technical background, with expertise in SQL databases, data modelling, data warehousing, and business intelligence
  • Strong experience in delivery across the lifecycle of data products, adhering to robust software engineering tools and practices, especially Git and GitHub.
  • Excellent communication, with the ability to communicate complex data concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for data and operational excellence, with a desire to continuously learn and innovate.

REQUIREMENTS - PREFERABLE

  • Experience with dbt, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon QuickSight
  • Experience with Python, Notebooks, and cloud compute
  • Advanced experience with the Google Workspace suite, especially Google Apps Script, and Google Sheets
  • Experience with the operations of academic institutions and their implementation in the education-technology industry
  • Strong technical background, with expertise in a range of data engineering and data science techniques.
