Role Summary
ALX Africa is looking for a creative and proactive Marketing Associate to support the Marketing and Growth team. This role will play a key part in developing and delivering engaging content across social media, campaigns, presentations, merchandise, and the web, helping to strengthen the ALX brand and connect with learners, partners, and communities across the continent.
The Marketing Associate will combine design, digital marketing, and basic web development to translate ideas into compelling visuals and campaigns. This includes creating graphics, updating web content, supporting marketing initiatives, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure consistency, quality, and impact across all channels.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. They are someone who enjoys bringing creativity to complex projects, collaborating across teams, and producing content and experiences that inspire and engage ALX’s community.
Specific Responsibilities
Graphic Design & Content Creation
- Design visually compelling graphics for social media, paid ads, email campaigns, presentations, posters, and merchandise.
- Ensure all visuals align with ALX Africa’s brand guidelines and tone of voice.
- Collaborate with the relevant teams to develop creative concepts that engage the learner and alumni community and partners.
- Adapt designs for multiple formats and platforms, optimising for digital and print.
Website & Digital Support
- Assist with website updates, basic HTML/CSS edits, and design implementation on the web.
- Work with web developers to ensure design accuracy, usability, and a seamless user experience.
- Support website content creation, ensuring visuals and copy are cohesive and on-brand.
Marketing Campaigns & Communications
- Support marketing campaigns from concept to execution, providing creative assets and visual storytelling.
- Support social media content calendars by ensuring the timely delivery of graphics and campaign assets.
- Monitor trends in digital marketing and design to bring innovative ideas to campaigns.
- Analysis of asset performance to provide insights for optimisation.
Event & Activation Support
- Support pre-event promotion by creating branded materials for events, including banners, posters, presentations, social media graphics, and merchandise, and updates to the website.
- Assist in setting up digital and physical assets at the venue, ensuring branding consistency.
Collaboration & Project Management
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on messaging, design, and project timelines.
- Manage multiple design and digital projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining high-quality output.
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions and marketing strategy discussions with creative ideas and solutions.
Skill Requirements - Essential
- 2–3 years of professional experience in marketing, graphic design, digital content creation, or related fields.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, or Canva.
- Basic web development skills, including HTML/CSS and website content management.
- Experience creating visuals for social media, paid ads, presentations, posters, merchandise, and campaigns.
- Strong understanding of brand guidelines, visual storytelling, and consistency across digital and print channels.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality output.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Creativity and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to contribute ideas to campaigns, events, and activations.
- Familiarity with social media content calendars, digital marketing trends, and performance analysis of creative assets.
- Adaptability, professionalism, and comfort working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Skill Requirements - Preferable
- Experience with motion graphics/animation and event marketing
- Prior experience working in fast-paced, mission-driven organisations focused on youth empowerment, skills development, or entrepreneurship is an advantage.
- Exposure to education, youth development, or regional ecosystem work in Southern Africa is advantageous but not required.
