Role Summary

ALX South Africa is looking for a strategic and results-driven Recruitment Specialist to lead learner recruitment for the South African market. This role will oversee the national recruitment strategy, manage the recruitment funnel from awareness to paid, and lead a Recruitment Associate responsible for on-the-ground outreach and engagement.

The Recruitment Specialist will combine data-driven strategy, partnership development, and team leadership to drive sustainable learner growth. They will work closely with marketing, partnerships, and community teams to ensure ALX reaches and converts high-potential young people into learners across the country.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building systems, optimising conversion funnels, and leading recruitment initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for young people.

 

Specific Responsibilities

Recruitment Strategy & Market Growth:

  • Develop and implement the national learner recruitment strategies to drive registrations, enrollment, and payment conversions.
  • Identify high-potential/ priority learner segments and recruitment channels including digital campaigns, school partnerships, youth organizations, and community networks.
  • Continuously refine strategies based on market insights, performance metrics, and learner feedback.

Funnel Ownership & Conversion Optimization:

  • Own the full recruitment funnel from lead generation to enrollment and payment conversion.
  • Identify drop-off points and implement solutions to improve applicant engagement.
  • Track recruitment data and generate insights to optimise campaigns and processes.

Campaign Content & Copy Oversight:

  • Review and edit all recruitment campaign content - digital ads, emails, social media posts, presentations, and offline materials- to ensure clarity, impact, and alignment with ALX messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Recruitment Associate to write and test copy, improving conversion rates.
  • Ensure campaigns resonate with target audiences, including learners and their families, and maintain consistency across channels.

Team Leadership & Execution:

  • Manage and mentor the Recruitment Associate, providing guidance on outreach, campaign execution, and copy creation.
  • Support the execution of both online and offline campaigns, including school presentations, community events, and workshops.
  • Build clear processes and systems for recruitment efficiency and scalability.

Partnerships & Ecosystem Development:

  • Collaborate with the Partnerships Manager to develop and maintain relationships with schools, universities, and youth organisations.
  • Identify strategic partnerships that increase awareness and access to ALX programs.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen ALX’s presence in the youth ecosystem.

Data, Insights & Reporting:

  • Track recruitment performance against targets and provide actionable insights.
  • Analyse engagement metrics and refine content, campaigns, and processes based on data.
  • Ensure campaigns are both creative and performance-driven.

 

Skill Requirements - Essential

  • 3–5 years in recruitment, admissions, growth, or related roles, ideally within education, youth development, or mission-driven organisations.
  • Proven experience managing recruitment funnels and achieving enrollment or conversion targets.
  • Hands-on experience in writing, reviewing, and optimising copy and campaign content.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into actionable campaign improvements.
  • Experience managing or mentoring team members.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to engage learners and stakeholders.

 

Skill Requirements - Preferable

  • Experience in fast-paced startups or scale-ups.
  • Background in education access, youth development, or training programs.
  • Experience building school, university, or community partnerships.
  • Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation, and campaign analytics tools.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
