Position Summary
School Safety plays a critical role in ensuring the school runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently each day. This role blends front desk management, school safety, and operational support, serving as both the first point of contact for families and visitors and a key partner in maintaining a secure school environment. School Safety upholds safety protocols, manages visitor systems, supports daily logistics, and provides administrative assistance to the school’s operations team. This individual represents the school with professionalism and warmth while ensuring that all systems and procedures are executed with accuracy and consistency.

Essential Responsibilities
Front Desk management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all visitors, families, and community members, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
- Facilitate visitor entry, including check-in procedures and issuing proper identification through systems such as SchoolPass.
- Maintain accurate visitor logs and ensure compliance with school policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Logistics:
- Reinforce essential protocols and logistics for daily operations, including arrival, transitions, and dismissal routines, as well as school events and activities such as after-school and special programs, field trips, and assemblies.
Safety:
- Monitor school entry points, hallways, stairwells, and common areas to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Identify and report unauthorized or suspicious individuals, activities, or safety concerns.
- Monitor hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and other common areas to ensure student safety and appropriate behavior.
Communication:
- Manage the front desk, including answering the main phone line and monitoring the operations email inbox.
- Support clear and professional communication between families and school staff.
Administrative Task:
- Perform a variety of administrative support tasks to streamline daily operations, including managing mail, responding to phone calls, distributing supplies to teachers and collecting documents. Supports the planning of field trips and the receiving of packages in the procurement process.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- High School Diploma /GED.
- 2 years experience in School Operations, Safety or Administrative work.
- Must obtain NYS security License within 90 days of employment.
- Comfort utilizing technology to communicate, track and organize work and information (e.g. Google Suite, documents, spreadsheets).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Completion and clearance in pre-employment Fingerprinting and Reference check process.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Associate’s degree.
- 4 years of experience in School Operations, Safety or Administrative work.
- Possess a valid NYS Security License.
- Ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.
- Private security or public police experience, including knowledge of school & local laws and search & seizure.
- Use of student information systems to report, track and monitor enrollment, attendance and ensure compliance and funding (e.g. ATS, PowerSchool).
- Strong command of all Google programs.

- Computer and other office equipment
Work Environment/Physical Effort:
- Regularly required to sit, stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, speak loudly and clearly, visually observe, hear, operate a computer, and other classroom, school and office equipment, reach with hands and arms, bend down, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 20 pounds. Work is being performed in a traditional multi-floor school environment with limited to no elevator access.
Work Schedule
- 12 month work schedule
- Monday- Friday 6:45am-3:45pm
Compensation:
- Amber Charter Schools strictly follow a salary schedule for each role to ensure our continued commitment towards pay equity. The expected salary range for this role is $38,000 to $40,314 depending on verified relevant work experience, highest level of completed education, and required certifications and/or licenses for the role. This is a full-time, non- exempt position.
