Senior Data Analytics Engineer

Argentina

About the Company

Ambient combines a decade of operational experience with design and engineering prowess to improve apartment living and management in the most impactful, cost-effective way possible.

The name "Ambient" embodies our vision to create a category-defining platform that seamlessly integrates smart technology into the built environment and transforms the way people live, visit, and work in multifamily communities. Our focus is on increasing the value of multifamily properties by making them more efficient to operate and more comfortable to live in.

About the Role

As a Staff or Lead Analytics Engineer you are a key stakeholder in decision making across the organization. The impact you bring spans the organization from the product and engineering teams to operations and finance. Your role and that of others on the team is highly cross functional, as this decision support will sometimes span all the way from automating data acquisition to analysis.

This is a uniquely cross-functional technical leadership role; your deep understanding of the technical and logistical trade-offs at play for the problems the team solves will drive discovery, design, and implementation of tools that you and the rest of the Data Team leverage to provide all of the above.

Responsibilities

  • Pilot and establish improvements to the patterns our team applies when creating new data models, views, and data flows from a variety of sources to support product experimentation and device troubleshooting.
  • Facilitate collaboration sessions with engineers across our stack and distill insights into actionable plans to improve our telemetry collection capabilities and better inform downstream alerting metrics and troubleshooting tools
  • Own the continuous improvement of the tools and patterns used within the team to build data quality tests for our IOT device telemetry and ERP system including testing for data recency, cardinality, etc
  • Drive clarity on which events best capture the user experience on Ambient web and mobile apps; bring frameworks and data strategies to these cross functional conversations with the objective of taking maximum advantage of both off the shelf product analytics tools and our internal analytics stack.
  • Build out standardization for onboarding materials to support business users through workshops, query and dashboard performance monitoring, etc
  • Bring repeatable patterns and architecture that make common data transformation tasks easier to design, build, test, and maintain (Ex. aggregates, event sequencing/grouping, time series spines, etc) – including navigating the trade-offs of human-in-the loop vs. full automation for change management.

Technical Qualifications

  • Pipeline Architecture: You’ve engineered solutions, from simple to complex, from github to fivetran to airflow
  • Expert in SQL: You’ve likely pushed the limits of BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks or similar
  • Expert in Data Modeling: If dbt is how you roll, that’s cool – either way we’re looking for a respect for the craft
  • Strong Quantitative Communicator: We expect in the course of your career you’ve built an expert level proficiency throughout the data stack from CLI and python REPL to notebooks to BI tools/front-end
  • Strong Software Skills and Troubleshooting Intuition: Having solid python experience is gonna be a must; Go/Javascript are nice to have

Traits required for success in this role

  • Comfortable with ambiguity: You love tackling nebulous problems through discovery, experimentation and iteration
  • Assertive w/ Ownership: You act as a product owner w/ assertiveness and clarity – for both upstream data needs and downstream operational capacity
  • Curious about People: You dive into nebulous problems and ask progressively better questions as you get more info about the problem being solved
  • Curious about Process: You're curious about the minimal information artifacts which need to be captured from a business process or user interaction in order to run an experiment
  • Pragmatic about Maintainability: You take pride in the experience you provide to those who read your queries or extend your abstractions; an instinctive understanding of the tradeoff between time and succinctness shows in your work

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
