Senior Staff Accountant - Johnson Barrow

Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for supporting the month-end close process, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
- Manage aspects of the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Analyze general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
- Support the annual audit process, including liaising with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies and procedures.
- Assist with process improvements and implementation of best practices within the accounting function.
- Collaborate with project managers to provide timely financial insights, identify cost overruns, and support budget-to-actual analysis.
- Prepare and reconcile bank and credit card statements, and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain job cost tracking and ensure accurate allocation of costs to appropriate projects.
- Prepare and analyze WIP schedules; assist in revenue recognition using percentage of completion methods.
- Ensure compliance with sales/use tax, local business licenses, and other regulatory filings.
- Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or a related field.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with Microsoft Business Central is strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems proactively.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in a mid-to-large size company or public accounting firm.
- Knowledge of internal controls.
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency consolidations.
- Familiarity with percentage of completion and job costing in a construction environment.
Estimated Salary: $105,000 - $120,000/year, with flexibility based on experience and skills.
