Position Summary: 

The Master Pump Builder (Machinist) is responsible for accurately assembling, testing, and finalizing high-quality pumps and pump components using Taco Comfort Solutions equipment and parts. This role requires deep mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate ensures every unit meets performance standards before it leaves the shop.
 
Key Responsibilities: 

• Assemble commercial and industrial pumps according to engineered drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
• Use hand tools, power tools, hoists, presses, and other shop equipment safely and effectively to build pump assemblies.
• Perform detailed inspections during and after assembly to verify proper fit, alignment, tolerances, and quality.
• Set up and install motors, seals, bearings, impellers, gaskets, coupling elements, and auxiliary components in accordance with specifications.
• Conduct pressure and performance tests on completed pump units to validate functionality and compliance.
• Troubleshoot assembly issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to maintain build quality and throughput.
• Maintain accurate production records, complete build documentation, and update tracking systems for parts used and units completed.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes and resolve production challenges.
• Maintain clean, organized workstations and ensure all tools and equipment are in safe and working condition.
• Mentor and guide less-experienced assemblers and provide hands-on training as needed.
• Coordinate shipping and receiving of equipment for sold jobs, ensuring accurate documentation, proper handling, and timely delivery
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in mechanical assembly, machining, or related field a plus.
• Significant mechanical experience in a manufacturing or pump assembly environment; prior experience with Taco pumps or similar fluid-handling equipment is highly desirable.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions.
• Proficiency with mechanical tools and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, etc.).
• Ability to lift and maneuver heavy parts safely, use hoists and material handling equipment, and work on the production floor for extended periods.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to quality and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with pump testing and performance validation.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic and mechanical principles.
• Experience with ERP systems for production tracking and documentation.
Physical Requirements
• Regular standing, bending, lifting, and manual dexterity required.
• Ability to safely handle parts and components frequently weighing up to 75 lbs or more with mechanical assistance.
 
Work Environment:

This role is based in a manufacturing or production facility setting with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and shop conditions typical of assembly operations. Safety gear and adherence to safety procedures are required at all times.
