Job Title: Nonprofit Consulting Intern
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Schedule: 15-20 hours/week M-F
Pay rate: $18.75/hour
Location: San Francisco, CA
Reports to: Development and Administrative Coordinator
Position summary: Interns at AMC support both administrative and client-facing work. The Intern works with AMC staff to provide administrative assistance, help coordinate projects, format documents, manage online files, and support client engagement. They will also oversee various office services, such as email correspondence, meeting coordination, and managing office supplies and organization. The Intern will also work collaboratively with the AMC team to coordinate activities, assist with research, manage databases, and complete other related work as needed. The Intern is evaluated based on how they carry out these responsibilities and team feedback. Typically, Interns are seeking experience working in nonprofit fundraising settings and are working towards a degree in a relevant field.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and grant application submissions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
- Perform general office duties, such as answering telephone calls in a clear and professional manner, organizing and handling information requests, ordering office supplies, etc.
- Manage timely email correspondence; organize and sort incoming communications to create an efficient system with priority order. Respond to email and voicemail in a timely manner.
- Proofread and prepare grant applications and other professional documents (including but not limited to proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry) using Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets and/or database software for AMC and client communications.
- Collaborate with AMC staff to research and identify potential funding opportunities in foundation and grant databases for client and proposal needs.
- Manage efficient, easy-to-access filing systems (paper and electronic), and maintain and organize files (hard copy, Sharepoint, and/or Google Drive).
- Track all hours/projects in Asana & Harvest.
- Communicate with the CEO, COO, staff, and consultants as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
- Provide clerical and project support functions as needed.
- Other duties as determined by supervisor.
Key Competencies and Essential Job Functions
Fundraising: You are looking for exposure to and experience with fundraising, including grant writing, donor relations, or the like. You can work with AMC staff and contractors to provide administrative support for fundraising efforts even while actively learning about fundraising yourself.
Administrative skills: You have - or are interested in developing - excellent organizational and administrative skills, including attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. You are proficient in creating and maintaining files, records, and other administrative tasks. You are also adept at using administrative software and tools.
Communication: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear and concise written materials and to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. You also have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain strong, professional relationships.
Project Management: You are able to collaborate with colleagues to ensure that projects are completed on time.
Research: You have strong research skills, including the ability to gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources. You are able to use these research skills to support client and administrative projects.
Software Literacy: You are comfortable using software and are willing to learn how to use all of AMC’s and AMC clients’ software platforms (Asana, Harvest, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workplace, Foundation Directory Online, Salesforce, Instrumentl, etc.), and can navigate other online platforms effectively. You are able to use these software tools to support your administrative and fundraising work.
Work Environment
This position works with teams across multiple U.S. time zones. Professionalism and discretion are required. This role routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The essential functions of the job require that the individual working in this position remain standing or sitting in a stationary position for most of the day and move about within their home or an office building to access file cabinets and machinery.
Compensation and Benefits
This part-time, non-exempt position has an hourly rate of $18.75. This amount is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to analyzing comparable jobs and the associated salaries along with the location of this position.
