About the Role

A.M. Crawford, Inc. (AMC) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Lead Consultant to join our growing team and help advance our firm’s mission: Nonprofit Success. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at managing complex client portfolios, and finds fulfillment in helping mission-driven organizations amplify their impact.

As a Lead Consultant, you will oversee a portfolio of nonprofit clients, ensuring that every engagement meets the highest standards of quality, timeliness, and financial performance. You’ll serve as fundraising strategist and partner — guiding clients through transformative growth while mentoring your internal team to deliver exceptional results.  In this role, you will also provide expert leadership in post-award grant strategy and management, overseeing grant reporting, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements. You’ll help clients build sustainable grant programs by identifying new funding opportunities, aligning proposals with organizational priorities, and implementing systems that improve grant tracking, stewardship, and performance over time.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client contracts simultaneously; oversee all contract budgets, objectives, and deliverables, and be responsible for the overall success of the assigned client portfolio. Foster trust, manage expectations, and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of awarded grants, ensuring compliance, effective fund utilization, accurate reporting, and alignment with funder expectations; develop and implement strategies that streamline financial oversight, performance tracking, and long-term funder relationships.
  • Spearhead the incorporation of new tools (including AI platforms such as ChatGPT, NotebookLM, Claude and other AI tools) into our workflows.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising and communications strategies tailored to each client’s mission and growth objectives.
  • Lead project teams with clarity and purpose, effectively delegating, motivating, and holding the team accountable for results.
  • Monitor budgets and billable hours; maintain transparent project management workflows in Asana.
  • Review and sign off on written deliverables, ensuring consistency, quality, and strategic alignment.
  • Partner with leadership to develop new service offerings and identify business development opportunities within existing client relationships.
  • Mentor team members, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed 300+ client hours per quarter (1,200+ annually).

What You Bring

  • A minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, post-award grant management, or consulting.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
  • Strong financial acumen — comfortable coaching nonprofit staff and colleagues to create program budgets, interpret Form 990s, and read financial statements.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, with an aptitude for building authentic relationships and influencing decision-makers.
  • Proven project management expertise, balancing multiple deadlines while maintaining precision, professionalism, and grace under pressure.
  • Proficiency with key technological platforms including ChatGPT, Asana, Google Workspace, Candid, Time Tracking tools, and/or other cloud-based systems.
  • Fluency with AI and digital productivity tools — you are curious, adaptive, and comfortable using platforms such as ChatGPT, Notebook LM, Claude, or other emerging technologies to streamline work, enhance creativity, and drive results.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine enthusiasm for AMC’s mission and for helping organizations thrive.

Core Competencies

  • Fundraising Strategy – You translate missions, projects, and programs into compelling cases for support.
