Slide Deck Design Specialist - Contractor

The American Flood Coalition (AFC) is a nonpartisan group that drives transformational adaptation to higher seas, stronger storms, and more frequent flooding. AFC comprises more than 450 elected officials, local leaders, military groups, and businesses that work together to advance resilient and equitable flood solutions at the local, state, and federal level. As the only organization that focuses on flooding and sea level rise across all levels of government, AFC is uniquely positioned to transform how communities around the country adapt to flooding and sea level rise.

The Marketing and Communications team is responsible for all external communications and positioning for AFC. The Slide Deck Design Specialist consultant will work with the Marketing and Communications team to develop compelling presentations to broaden organizational reach, membership, and key priorities. Due to the nature of the work, turnaround times are sometimes expected within 24-48 hours. 

The right person will have:

• Experience building slide decks with Google Slides from start to finish with narrative structures.
• Keen eye for visual storytelling and detail-oriented. 
• Strong time management and organizational skills to be able to turn around finished products on short notice, often within 24 hours. 
• Experience designing one-pagers, reports, social media graphics, and user experience are a plus.
• Open to both individual contractors or firms.

Scope of Work:

We are seeking a freelance design and creative expert to help translate complex issues into visually engaging and informative narratives. Much of the work will consist of building decks with compelling and structured storytelling. The ideal candidate would have experience formatting full slide decks (via Google Slides) and turning abstract ideas into tangible visual concepts from the initial storyboarding process to finalized, designed products. This is a short-term contract with the opportunity to expand the scope to a longer-term retainer. We anticipate 10 hours per month and up to two fully-designed decks. Deliverables will include presentations for a variety of external audiences including members and key stakeholders.

Timeline: This is an initial contract with the opportunity to extend to a longer-term retainer. The initial contract period of June and July will be an estimated 15-20 hours per month. 

Rate: $75-90 per hour

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

• All submissions must be electronic and in PDF format. 
• Include resume, references, hourly rate, and samples of previous work. 
• Samples of previous work must include two slide decks of varying length and complexity and one one-pager or fact sheet.
• Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis and will be kept on file.
