Externship Coordinator

Purpose of the Position:

The Externship Coordinator is responsible for selecting and approving appropriate externship sites, providing orientation for the on-site supervisors, and providing oversight of the externship experience, including on-site assessment of student experiences and the quality of learning opportunities at least once during each term students are assigned to the externship site.

What you’ll do:

  • Determine Eligibility: Evaluate students’ qualifications and eligibility for externship programs.
  • Assess and Place Students: Identify students’ strengths and weaknesses to match them with suitable externship opportunities.
  • Research and Secure Sites: Investigate potential externship sites, assess their suitability, establish new sites, and secure contracts for each extern.
  • Monitor Progress: May conduct regular site visits and maintain communication with site supervisors to monitor and support student progress.
  • Evaluate and Improve Performance: Obtain and review site evaluations of students, address any performance deficiencies, and develop action plans to ensure students meet required competencies.
  • Counsel Students: Provide guidance to students on externship rules, expectations, and procedures throughout the externship process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Skills –relationship building/rapport, ability to learn basic technical computer skills, time management, personal accountability and drive.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English. 
  • Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment. 
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role. 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Experience as a medical assistant
  • 1+ years’ experience in customer service, retail customer facing or hospitality role. 
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams. 
  • Other skills or abilities - critical thinking, problem solving, organization, interpersonal skills, and multi-tasking.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state laws and rules, compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and, and internal policies and procedures.  
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This is a full-time campus position with occasional travel required for site visits, meetings and/or conferences.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.

Compensation Range

$24 - $26 USD
