Software Developer
AIR is currently seeking a Software Developer to join AIR's FEWS NET (The Famine Early Warning Systems Network) project. The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) is a leading provider of early warning and analysis on acute food insecurity around the world. The Software Developer is responsible for designing and implementing high-performance, user-centric Content Management System (CMS) features and themes, collaborating with team members, maintaining code quality and security, and leveraging Drupal best practices to deliver responsive, data-driven web applications.
This position may be based remotely within the U.S. or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations (excluding U.S. territories).

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for the position include:
- Design and implement new features and functionality to enhance the CMS, ensuring high performance, scalability, and availability.
- Develop responsive, user-friendly themes by translating design concepts into functional front-end implementations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with back-end developers, designers, and other team members to deliver visually appealing and intuitive user experiences.
- Build and maintain user-facing features with dynamic data visualization components to support interactive content.
- Develop custom PHP applications and modules within the Drupal framework to meet specific project requirements.
- Maintain and support the CMS, including applying security patches, performing upgrades, troubleshooting issues, and deploying high-quality code to repositories.
- Stay current with Drupal best practices, conducting research and applying modern development standards and techniques.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for optimization and automation.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support team and project goals.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics or other related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of Professional Full Stack or Front-end Drupal website development experience.
- Experience working with and creating automated tests, such as using Playwright, Behat, Selenium, etc.
- Advanced site-building experience including deep familiarity with Drupal modules such as Views, Blocks, CKEditor, Layout Builder, Media Library, Taxonomy, Paragraphs, Search API, Webform.
- Experience developing web solutions in Drupal and PHP implementations in a LAMP environment.
- Experience developing sites to 508 compliance standards. • Experience creating custom Drupal modules.
- Experience building responsive websites using Drupal CMS, HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery.
- Knowledge of PHP, PHP files, Twig and similar theme functions, and knowledge of the Drupal theme layer.
- Thorough understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g. Requirements, Design, Development, Testing) and exposure to Agile or iterative SDLCs.
Skills:
- Ability to write JavaScript with and without the use of frameworks such as jQuery.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to develop CSS with consistent styles across platforms and browsers.
- Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels.
- Able to learn quickly and work in a distributed team and collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment

Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
Anticipated Annual Salary Range
$110,000 - $140,000 USD
