Software Drupal Developer
AIR is seeking a Software Drupal Developer to join its forward‑thinking Technology Office to support the U.S. Department of State funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) Data, Learning, and Communications Hub (Hub) as part of an innovative project team
FEWS NET is a leading global provider of timely, accurate, evidence-based and transparent early warning information and analysis of current and future acute food insecurity. The FEWS NET Hub, managed by AIR, plays a central role in strengthening the accessibility, transparency, and usability of food security data and analyses by managing, enhancing and dissemination data and knowledge that support global food security monitoring and response efforts.
In this role, you will provide full-time support to the FEWS NET Hub in support of the Hub’s multi-component approach that combines data engineering, web-based dissemination, strategic communications and learning management. Central to this effort is the FEWS NET website, which serves as the project’s primary public-facing platform for communicating analysis, data products, and early warning information on acute food insecurity. The Drupal Developer will help power and evolve the FEWS NET website by delivering secure, accessible, and high-performing Drupal solutions. This role supports the full lifecycle of site operations building new functionality, maintaining platform stability, and ensuring content and features meet Section 508 accessibility standards. This position reports to the Software Drupal Developer on the FEWS NET Hub, within the Technology Office.
This is a fully remote position, which also offers hybrid work flexibility to work from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations, if desired. Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training sessions, and conferences. To support effective collaboration, the role requires availability during core business hours aligned with the Eastern Time Zone (EST).

Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to-
- Develop and enhance Drupal web applications, including custom PHP development, configuration, and CMS administration.
- Design, build, and launch new site features and functionality with a focus on performance, reliability, and availability.
- Translate responsive design concepts into polished Drupal themes delivering an intuitive, visually compelling user experience.
- Create and implement highly visible, user-facing components, including features that incorporate data visualization elements.
- Maintain and improve the platform through security patching, upgrades, troubleshooting, testing, and high-quality deployments to the code repository.
- Support content operations by helping document, archive, and update website content, ensuring ongoing Section 508 compliance and smooth site operations.
- Collaborate closely with developers and team members to ensure solutions are implemented effectively and align with shared standards and goals.
- Stay current on Drupal best practices and apply them to improve development quality and maintainability.

Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field with 4+ years of professional Drupal development experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of equivalent experience.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining Drupal‑based web solutions, including custom PHP development in a LAMP environment.
- Experience building responsive, accessible Drupal user interfaces (HTML/CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, theming/templating) and developing custom modules/new features in alignment with best practices.
- Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards and compliance.
- Familiarity with automated testing tools, Agile development practices, and GitHub or similar code repositories.
- Experience supporting projects for U.S. government or international development organizations preferred.

- JavaScript expertise to build interactive experiences, including work with and without frameworks (e.g., jQuery).
- Advanced Drupal site-building capabilities, leveraging modules such as Views, Blocks, CKEditor, Layout Builder, Media Library, Taxonomy, Paragraphs, Search API, and Webform.
- Strong front-end delivery skills, able to turn wireframes/layouts into responsive HTML/CSS, with consistent styling across browsers and platforms.
- Solid understanding of Drupal theming and the SDLC, including Twig/PHP theme layer knowledge and experience working in Agile/iterative environments.

Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.

$122,000 - $142,000 USD
