Senior Underwriter

American National is hiring for a Commercial/Agriculture Senior Underwriter. This position underwrites new and renewal commercial and agricultural business over an assigned territory. The Senior Underwriter will maintain relationships with agent partners and teammates, providing support on coverage, rating, risk appetite, system inquiries, and more. They will also take the lead on assigned projects and provide departmental support as a subject matter expert.
 
What You’ll Do

• Evaluate new business, policy changes, and renewal accounts working within specified guidelines to make decisions and knowingly take risk. 
• Practice effective communication to agency and internal partners while providing underwriting support.
• Understand form language and be able to provide coverage and class code opinions.
• Help manage and update underwriting guidelines.
• Coordinate with manager and other internal partners to identify regional specific needs and issues affecting their assigned territory.
• Be proactive in field outreach and communicating with assigned territory.
• Engage field partners to facilitate strong prospecting and focus market production.
• Understand and make decisions on multiple products associated with commercial and agriculture accounts.
• Monitor workflow and communicate observations of trends, agent or system performance issues, or other areas of opportunity.
• Provide an owner’s mindset to their assigned territory.
• Present content to team or territory groups as needed.
• Participate in agency visits, whether virtual or in person.
• Complete independent projects with research coordinated with other business partners. 
• Provide subject matter expertise in commercial or agricultural risks  
• Participate in larger group projects, working with interdepartmental partners to complete necessary tasks.
• Mentor and support others within the Underwriting team as needed. 

What You’ll Need

• Six to ten years of insurance industry experience
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter or other professional insurance designation preferred
