Manager, P&C Underwriting
Glenmont, NY
This position is intended to be in one of American National core offices in Albany, NY or Springfield, MO. We will consider remote for the right candidate.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the underwriting unit; ensures applications are handled promptly and accurately and according to underwriting guidelines as well as state and federal legislation and may also underwrite policies. This role manages workflow in effort to meet established service-level agreements. Has heavy involvement in special projects, committees, and underwriting direction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assembles and helps review loss reports or trend analyses for management to assist in identifying loss analyses and underwriting strategies.
- Requires sophisticated underwriting skills and abilities. Makes sure proper documentation is received with new business applications and changes to policies.
- Provides cosigns for underwriters to ensure that underwriting guidelines are being properly followed and correct decisions are being made and provides coaching and additional training as necessary
- Monitors productivity and adjusts assignments based on workloads to ensure smooth workflow and department service level agreements are being met.
- Works with the chief underwriter to develop individual underwriter goals and in conducting performance reviews.
- Ensures new business and changes are processed timely and accurately.
- Enforces best practices and makes sure employees are performing accordingly as well in accordance with policies and procedures and maintains compliance with federal, state and DOI laws and guidelines in all states.
- Develops strong relationships with marketing departments and attends marketing meetings and give presentations as required.
- Facilitates and provides quality input to Actuarial on pricing and products for all lines of business in all states and provides input on all field bulletins, guidelines, and communication going to the field force or customer.
- Acts as a liaison with Farm Family on underwriting decisions that overlap between ANPAC® and Farm Family.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree (preferred)
- Eight to 10 years of experience.
- One to two years of supervisory/management experience.
- Additional Qualifications: o Bachelor’s degree in underwriting, risk management, business, accounting, or a related field.
