
Senior Litigation Specialist
At American National, our Litigation team is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and customer service. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Litigation Specialist to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Litigation Specialist you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing complex litigation cases. You will work closely with our legal team, claims department, and external counsel to ensure effective and efficient resolution of disputes. Your expertise in litigation and insurance law will be essential in protecting the company’s interests and achieving favorable outcomes.
What You’ll Do
• Make an initial in-depth review of the coverage to determine the sufficiency of the information to make a correct decision. Complete an in-depth review of the investigation of the occurrence to evaluate the sufficiency of the investigation and to ensure a correct assessment of the exposure. Determine if the investigation supports the exposure analysis.
• Handle claims that are more complex than the lower level, such as multiple car accidents, multiple injuries, catastrophic bodily injuries, etc.
• Coordinate a litigation plan with the defense counsel that represents both a cost-effective defense and the best interest of the insured, when applicable.
• Assume the responsibility for handling high-severity multiline litigation claims for all the lines of business, personal and commercial, to include: property, liability, first-and third-party exposure cases, errors and omission claims, direct action lawsuits, commercial agriculture and construction litigation; as well as actions against the company for extra-contractual exposures.
• Receive and properly handle claims from inception or transfer; review the notice of loss to determine the proper coverage; and establish and maintain proper reserves.
• Recognize, investigate, and handle, as necessary, the recoveries from subrogation, salvage, liens, loss transfers, or other related claims areas.
• Handle all correspondence relating to the litigation of files and respond accordingly.
• Communicate and maintain professional relationships with insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, vendors and management, regarding the ongoing status of claims handled.
• Review legal expenses incurred in the defense of the litigation.
• Mentor lower-level litigation and claims employees. Present various items to management. Assist in training, as needed, throughout the company.
• Report to the Claims Committee, if and when appropriate.
• Evaluate claims for bodily injury and review medical reports/records and bills. Calculate past/future medical expenses and the past and future wage loss, where applicable. Analyze the value of personal injury claims for compensation, considering both the past and future values of the compensation. Confirm and/or perform permanency ratings according to American Medical Association (AMA) guidelines to assess the exposure and value of the claim.
• Consider alternative dispute resolutions, utilizing creative resolutions, when appropriate, in order to reach an effective resolution of a dispute.
• Make daily decisions to determine the appropriate course of action for the file, considering the exposure of the insured, the company, and cost factors.
• Assist the supervisor on special projects. Assign new files in the absence of the supervisor and field questions.
• Participate in court-ordered mediations. Appear/travel for settlement trips and court appearances, when required.
What You’ll Need
• Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, risk management, or a related field
• Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience, six (6) to eight (8) years of which must be claims adjusting experience handling bodily injury claims, and five (5) years of which must be experience in litigation.
• Must possess and maintain all necessary licenses to adjust claims.

• Insurance and/or litigation designations such as Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Claims (AIC), Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA), etc.
The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The salary range for this position is $73,800 - $111,700.
