
Manager, Casualty Claims
We are seeking a Casualty Claims Manager to join our dynamic Auto Bodily Injury team. The role is responsible for the direct oversight of a team of injury Claims Specialists of varying experience levels. This position requires extensive experience in the fundamentals of handling first and third-party injury claims in multiple jurisdictions and is pivotal in the support and development of exceptional claims handling standards and customer service.
What Will You Do?
• Lead and manage the claims team in aspects of claims handling, including coverage, liability, injury development, evaluation, negotiation and resolution. Providing effective claim management including file reviews, coverage analysis and decision making.
• Monitor expense management and the oversight and approval of appropriate case reserves and payments, including timely escalation of cases above direct authority.
• Adhere to and promote company policies and drive claims handing practices in accordance with Best Practices.
• Champion exceptional customer service standards.
• Support professional written correspondence regarding various aspects of the claim, including coverage letters and denials.
• Ensure compliance with Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act, insurance laws, and regulations in all states assigned.
• Provide ongoing training, coaching and direction as needed to achieve target claim outcomes. Oversee all aspects of talent management including selection/hiring, retention, and performance management.
• Create and promote a positive work environment, while fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability
• Partner in process development and improvement across all areas of the claims department, as well as participate in various projects contributing to claims strategy.
Required Qualifications
• Eight+ years of bodily injury liability claims handling experience, including in-depth knowledge of insurance coverages, claims processes, and industry regulations.
• Highly competent in interpreting policy contracts and coverage analysis.
• Well versed in understanding and interpretation of claims legal principles, state law and case law.
• Experience handling liability claims in a large territory to include multiple states and jurisdictions
• Experience handling high severity and complex bodily injury claims including those triggering excess umbrella coverage
• Highly motivated team player
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a high attention to detail and follow-up
• Currently hold an appropriate state adjuster license or willingness to obtain following date of hire (American National will incur fees associated / No out of pocket expenses)
• High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior Management experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., AIC, CPCU) preferred.
• Technical skill set in Guidewire or alike claims management system
Position range is between $81,000.00 and $109,000.00
