Senior Product Manager, Software

San Francisco, California, United States

Company Overview

Amperesand is disrupting industrial power with the first commercialized Solid State Transformer systems. Solid State Transformers systems are much more than a transformer replacement, enabling numerous advanced features to unlock solutions for data centers, EV charging, renewables, microgrids, and industrial installations. We are looking for mission driven team members passionate about making amazing products for worldwide electrification at maximum acceleration. Amperesand is building a global company and looking for talent across our geographies.

Role Summary

We are hiring a Senior Product Manager, Software to own the development and delivery of site-level control software for Amperesand deployments. This includes everything from EMS integration to SCADA, site orchestration logic, and remote diagnostics.

You’ll define and prioritize the roadmap for how our inverters, battery systems, and microgrid controllers interact with local site systems — bridging edge-to-cloud telemetry, firmware integration, control algorithms, and customer-facing software.

This is a cross-functional leadership role spanning embedded systems, cloud integration, customer onboarding, and compliance frameworks. You will work closely with engineering, field teams, and enterprise customers to drive the software stack that makes our systems responsive, intelligent, and dependable at scale.

If you're passionate about building impactful, value-centric products and excited about building transformational products at the intersection of electrification, grid modernization, and digital control—this is your opportunity to lead and we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Own product requirements and roadmap for site-level software control systems, including orchestration, diagnostics, and external integrations

  • Define functional requirements across:

  • Distributed energy resource control (inverter, storage, load shedding)

  • Third-party EMS/BMS/SCADA interfaces

  • Local controller logic and software update pipelines

  • Collaborate with embedded systems, cloud software, and firmware teams to deliver robust, scalable, and secure control products

  • Drive alignment between software development and field performance needs (e.g., uptime, responsiveness, recoverability)

  • Ensure feature-level compliance with IEEE 2030.5, Modbus, OpenADR, and security frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC 27001)

  • Work directly with customers to onboard, configure, and tune site control logic to meet application needs (EV charging, data center redundancy, microgrids, etc.)

  • Develop documentation, dashboards, and field tools that empower customer self-service and remote troubleshooting

  • Track and report KPIs for software performance, system stability, and user experience

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in product management for control systems, industrial software, or energy software

  • Strong understanding of distributed energy systems, inverter integration, or power systems control

  • Experience with one or more of: EMS, BMS, SCADA, DERMS, or grid-edge control systems

  • Software architecture for real-time control and telemetry

  • Modbus, CAN, OPC-UA, REST APIs, or IEC 61850

  • Background working with hardware/software teams in complex, high-reliability environments

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills — able to translate between technical, customer, and business contexts

  • Passion for clean energy, system reliability, and building things that matter

Technical Skills:

To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong blend of technical fluency and systems-level thinking, with direct experience in the following:

  • Industrial Communication Protocols:
Proficiency with Modbus (RTU/TCP), OPC-UA, CANbus, REST APIs, GOOSE, SNMP; understanding of protocol mapping and interface abstraction layers

  • Power Systems Integration:
Familiarity with DER components (inverters, BESS, relays, metering), site controller architectures, and local supervisory logic for microgrid or distributed energy control

  • Software & Control Architecture:
Understanding of real-time systems, deterministic control loops, fault-tolerant design, and embedded/cloud control handoffs; experience with Linux-based edge devices, gateways, or PLCs

  • SCADA / EMS / BMS Interfacing:
Experience defining requirements and managing integration with customer-side EMS, SCADA, and building or battery management systems; exposure to IEC 61850, IEEE 2030.5, DNP3, or similar

  • Data Models & Telemetry:
Knowledge of telemetry data structures (e.g., time series, events, alarms); ability to specify logging, diagnostics, and performance KPIs for distributed assets

  • Security & Update Management:
Awareness of OT/IT security models, software signing, update policies, and remote fleet management protocols (e.g., secure OTA updates)

  • Tooling & Documentation:
Comfortable working with Jira, Confluence, Git, Figma (or equivalent); experience producing PRDs, integration guides, interface specs, and release documentation

Bonus qualifications:

  • Energy Sector Knowledge: Experience working on projects related to smart grids, renewable energy, or energy management platforms is a plus.

Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
