Assistant Project Engineer – Doors, Gates & Access Control Systems

AM/PM Door & Gate is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Project Engineer to support our sales and operations teams. This role assists with estimating, technical product verification, purchasing coordination, and project documentation for commercial door, gate, and access control projects.
The ideal candidate is technically minded, organized, and comfortable reviewing product data, drawings, and specifications while also communicating clearly with internal teams, vendors, and project stakeholders. This position requires someone who can work confidently in a team environment while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

Compensation
Competitive pay based on experience $18.00-$26.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the sales team with inside estimates for commercial doors, gates, and access control systems
• Review product specifications, shop drawings, and technical documents
• Verify equipment compatibility, measurements, and installation requirements
• Assist with preparing detailed proposals, scopes of work, and material breakdowns
• Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors to confirm product specifications, pricing, and lead times
• Assist with purchasing materials and verifying order accuracy
• Perform engineering and product checks to ensure systems are compatible and properly specified
• Help maintain organized job files, submittals, and project documentation
• Support project managers and technicians with technical information and material coordination
• Assist with reviewing job details for doors, gates, operators, hardware, and access control systems
Systems & Equipment You Will Work With
- Commercial door hardware and storefront doors
• Overhead sectional and rolling doors
• Automatic door systems
• Vehicle gate operators and gate systems
• Access control systems (keypads, card readers, intercoms)
• Safety devices such as photo eyes, sensing edges, and loop detectors
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to review technical drawings and product data sheets
• Comfortable working with measurements, specifications, and construction terminology
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with team members, vendors, and customers
• Ability to collaborate in a team environment while managing multiple tasks
• Capable of handling a steady workload and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Excel, PDF markups, and technical documentation
Preferred but not required:
- Degree or coursework in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
• Experience with construction estimating, commercial doors, gates, access control, or building systems
