Role Description
Amtech is seeking a QA Engineer III to own end-to-end quality for an assigned product module, component, service, or feature area.
This role requires an experienced Quality Engineer who can independently define a risk-based testing approach, determine the appropriate balance between manual and automated testing, strengthen Playwright automation coverage, and resolve non-routine quality challenges. The QA Engineer III will contribute to requirement reviews, automation code reviews, defect prevention, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of engineering quality practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end quality for an assigned module, component, service, or feature area.
- Develop a risk-based quality plan covering functional, exploratory, API, database, integration, automation, compatibility, and end-to-end testing.
- Assess product and technical risks and independently determine appropriate test depth and coverage.
- Decide which scenarios should be automated and which are better validated through manual or exploratory testing.
- Design and enhance Playwright automation using reusable fixtures, page or component objects, data-driven techniques, tagging, parallel execution, and reliable reporting.
- Review automation pull requests and provide feedback on maintainability, reliability, test isolation, code quality, and coverage effectiveness.
- Lead requirement reviews for owned areas and identify ambiguity, missing acceptance criteria, dependencies, edge cases, and testability concerns.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Architecture to improve solution quality and testability.
- Plan and execute testing across user interfaces, APIs, services, integrations, databases, configurations, and environments.
- Improve regression effectiveness by removing redundant, unstable, or low-value tests.
- Diagnose complex failures across applications, automation, environments, data, and dependent services.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring defects, escaped defects, and automation instability.
- Recommend preventive and corrective actions based on defect and test-result trends.
- Track and communicate quality indicators such as defect leakage, regression effectiveness, automation coverage, test stability, and release risk.
- Evaluate AI-assisted testing techniques and contribute to testing AI-enabled product capabilities where applicable.
- Ensure responsible AI usage by validating generated output and protecting confidential or sensitive information.
- Provide evidence-based release-readiness recommendations and communicate residual risks and testing trade-offs.
- Mentor Associate QA Engineers and QA Engineer II team members.
- Contribute to reusable testing standards, automation practices, and team-level quality improvements.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Typically, 3–6 years of software quality engineering experience.
- Strong experience in manual, exploratory, regression, integration, API, database, and end-to-end testing.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Playwright and JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience designing maintainable automation suites rather than only creating individual test scripts.
- Strong understanding of selectors, fixtures, test isolation, waits, retries, parallel execution, reporting, and automation failure diagnosis.
- Experience with API automation, SQL, Git, pull-request reviews, and CI/CD integration.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum delivery practices, requirement reviews, estimation, sprint testing, and release validation.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools for test design, test data generation, automation development, analysis, or defect investigation.
- Ability to independently assess quality risk and make sound testing trade-offs.
- Experience with root-cause analysis and defect-prevention initiatives.
- Familiarity with performance, accessibility, security, cloud, or compatibility testing is preferred.
- Strong mentoring, technical problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
