Role Description 

Amtech is seeking a Senior Performance Test Engineer who can independently own the non-functional quality of applications throughout the software development lifecycle. This role is responsible for designing, developing, executing, and analyzing performance tests to ensure applications meet performance, scalability, reliability, and availability goals under expected and peak workloads. 

The Performance QA Engineer will collaborate closely with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Product Management, and Quality Engineering teams to identify performance risks early, diagnose bottlenecks, and drive performance improvements before production releases. The ideal candidate combines strong performance engineering expertise with solid software testing fundamentals, automation skills, and experience using AI-assisted testing tools to improve productivity and quality. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Performance Strategy and Planning 

• Define performance testing strategies for On-Prem and SaaS Products; business workflows, and enterprise systems. 

• Define performance strategies, non-functional requirements, SLAs, workload models, and release criteria.  

• Participate in requirement, architecture, database, infrastructure, and design reviews to identify performance risks early.  

• Design and execute baseline, load, stress, spike, endurance, scalability, capacity, volume, failover, and resilience tests.  

• Develop reusable scripts using JMeter, k6, Gatling, Locust, LoadRunner, NeoLoad, or similar tools.  

 

Performance Analysis & Optimization 

• Analyze response time, throughput, latency, concurrency, error rates, and resource utilization.  

• Identify bottlenecks across the UI, APIs, application, database, network, infrastructure, and cloud layers.  

• Evaluate browser and frontend performance, including page load, rendering, responsiveness, and network activity.  

• Perform SQL performance analysis covering execution plans, indexing, locking, blocking, waits, I/O, and connection pooling.  

• Correlate logs, APM data, database metrics, infrastructure telemetry, and distributed traces to determine root causes.  

• Partner with Development, DevOps, Database, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams to recommend and validate optimizations.  

• Produce clear performance reports highlighting findings, trends, risks, and improvement recommendations. 

 

Automation & Continuous Performance Testing 

• Build reusable performance testing frameworks and utilities. 

• Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous performance validation. 

• Automate baseline, regression, and benchmark performance tests. 

• Define performance quality gates and produce clear reports with risks, trends, and recommendations.  

• Lead performance-related RCA and mentor teams on performance engineering practices. 

• Validate horizontal and vertical scalability, autoscaling, application stability, system capacity, and infrastructure sizing. 

 

Quality Engineering & Continuous Improvement 

• Perform API, database, integration, and end-to-end validation to support comprehensive performance testing. 

• Validate application stability, reliability, and resilience under long-running, high-volume, and peak workload conditions. 

• Contribute to resilience, failover, recovery, compatibility, accessibility, and security testing initiatives. 

• Collaborate with Quality Engineers, Developers, Architects, and DevOps teams to ensure comprehensive functional and non-functional test coverage. 

• Lead root-cause analysis of production performance issues, recurring bottlenecks, and performance regressions, and drive corrective and preventive actions. 

• Establish performance baselines, monitor performance trends across releases, and proactively identify performance regressions before production deployments. 

• Track, analyze, and report key performance quality metrics, including response time, throughput, error rates, resource utilization, scalability trends, and capacity metrics. 

• Leverage approved AI tools for performance test generation, workload modeling, log analysis, result interpretation, defect investigation, and performance optimization. 

• Mentor Quality Engineers on performance engineering best practices and promote a performance-first quality mindset across teams. 

• Represent Performance Engineering in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and release readiness reviews, providing evidence-based recommendations on system performance and scalability. 

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.  

• Typically 5–8 years of Quality or Performance Engineering experience, including 3+ years in performance testing.  

• Strong experience with JMeter, k6, Gatling, Locust, LoadRunner, NeoLoad, or equivalent tools.  

• Strong knowledge of workload modelling, scalability, capacity planning, reliability, and performance analysis.  

• Experience testing on-premises, SaaS, cloud, hybrid, distributed, and enterprise applications.  

• Strong understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, WebSockets, caching, messaging, and asynchronous processing.  

• Experience with UI performance tools such as browser developer tools, Lighthouse, WebPageTest, or Playwright tracing.  

• Strong SQL and database performance troubleshooting skills; SQL Server experience is preferred.  

• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, AppDynamics, or similar observability tools.  

• Working knowledge of Linux, Windows Server, networking, containers, Kubernetes, and AWS or Azure.  

• Experience integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or similar tools.  

• Programming or scripting experience in JavaScript, Java, Python, C#, or a similar language.  

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, mentoring, and stakeholder-management skills.
