THE OPPORTUNITY
The Lead, Patent Agent will have a critical role in building and maintaining Amylyx’s global patent portfolio toward protecting its pipeline. Joining a collaborative and talented legal team and reporting to the Head, Intellectual Property, the position will conduct day-to-day patent prosecution activities and assist in managing an active docket of patent families. The role will collaborate cross functionally, including with clinical, R&D, and business development teams to develop and execute Amylyx’s patent strategy.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft and prosecute patent applications and manage day-to-day patent prosecution activities and deadlines, including drafting office action responses, formal documents, and other filings
- Partner with external patent counsel toward cost-effective management of global patent prosecution activities in strategic alignment with business priorities and goals
- Proactively track R&D, clinical, and manufacturing activities toward invention harvesting and developing patent strategy to protect Amylyx technology
- Proactively track and review publication activity and public disclosures to ensure alignment with patent strategy
- Perform patentability, freedom-to-operate, and patent due diligence analyses
- Develop and implement internal processes toward cost-effective management of global patent portfolio
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a registered patent agent in good standing with United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or other life-science related field, or M.S. with relevant technical life-science industry experience
- 5+ years patent prosecution experience with significant expertise in drafting and prosecuting patents related to small-molecule pharmaceuticals
- Expertise in conducting patentability and patent freedom-to-operate searches and analyses on small molecule therapeutics
- Experience managing high-volume global patent docket
- Effective and proactive communicator
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Practiced patent prosecution in both law-firm and in-house settings
- Experience in drafting and prosecuting patents related to antisense therapeutics
- Experience in patent prosecution of clinical stage pharmaceuticals
- Experience in EP patent prosecution and opposition practice
WORK LOCATION AND CONDITIONS
- This is a remote friendly role, but you must reside and work within the United States, and in a state where Amylyx currently does business, to be considered. Any change in your remote location must be approved by Amylyx
- You will be required to follow Amylyx’s Remote Work Policy which includes:
- traveling to our corporate location in Cambridge, MA several times a year and attending other company-related events as necessary and requested, which may include travel by air, driving, or public transportation.
- working in a setting that meets all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to communicate via video conference, etc.) at your remote location
- Information security protocols and steps to maintain confidentiality of Amylyx information, technology, and materials.
