THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Director, Patient and Professional Advocacy at Amylyx Pharmaceuticals will report to the SVP of Medical Affairs. The Senior Director will lead the development and execution of strategies to engage patient communities and professional organizations. This role ensures the patient voice is integrated across the product lifecycle—from clinical development to commercialization—while fostering strong, compliant relationships with advocacy groups and healthcare professional societies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Refine and implement a comprehensive patient and professional advocacy strategy aligned with corporate goals.
- Serve as the internal champion for patient-centricity and incorporating patient insights into decision-making across functions including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory, and Communications.
Patient Advocacy
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with patient advocacy organizations. Serve as the primary liaison between the company and external advocacy stakeholders, representing the company with transparency, integrity, and empathy.
- Lead initiatives to incorporate patient insights into clinical trial design, access strategies, communications, and educational programs.
- Represent the company at patient-focused events, advisory board meetings, and conferences.
Professional Engagement
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with medical societies and professional organizations to support disease awareness, scientific exchange, and shared advocacy initiatives.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align advocacy efforts with scientific and medical strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Clinical Development, Market Access, Corporate Communications, Regulatory, and Legal/Compliance to ensure integrated and compliant engagement.
- Support internal training and awareness to deepen employee understanding of the patient experience and to educate on patient advocacy best practices.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all advocacy activities comply with regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.
- Manage sponsorships, grants, and partnerships in alignment with company policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in life sciences, public health, or related field preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in patient advocacy, public affairs, or related roles in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Proven track record of building global advocacy strategies and partnerships.
- Deep understanding of healthcare systems, regulatory frameworks, and patient engagement trends.
- Experience in rare diseases or specialty therapeutics is a plus.
- Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20%
WORK LOCATION AND CONDITIONS
- At Amylyx, we proudly support remote work opportunities within the United States. However, due to business considerations related to health insurance coverage and state tax regulations, we are unable to hire employees who reside and/or work in certain states. Currently, we are not considering applicants from Alaska and Hawaii.
- You will be expected to travel to our corporate location in Cambridge, MA several times a year and attend other company-related events as necessary and requested.
- You must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at your remote location.
