The Benefits Partner is responsible for the administration, execution, and continuous improvement of Amyris’ employee benefits programs. This role ensures that benefits offerings are competitive, compliant, and aligned with Amyris’ Total Rewards philosophy, while delivering a seamless and positive employee experience.
This role operates with a high degree of independence and professional expertise, applying deep knowledge of benefits programs, policies, and regulations to solve complex issues and drive operational excellence.
This is a part-time, hybrid role based in Emeryville, CA. Expected schedule is approximately 20–25 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration & Operations
- Administer day-to-day operations of employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), disability, life insurance, and wellness initiatives
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of enrollments, terminations, life events, and plan changes
- Maintain data integrity across HRIS and benefits platforms (e.g., PlanSource) and support audits as needed
- Proactively investigate data discrepancies and promptly coordinate correction actions.
- Partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions and proper reconciliation
Vendor & Program Management
- Act as a primary contact for benefits brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators
- Support annual renewal cycles, open enrollment, and plan implementations
- Monitor vendor performance and assist in resolving escalations or service issues
- Track utilization, costs, and trends to inform recommendations
Employee Experience & Communication
- Provide guidance and support to employees on benefits eligibility, coverage, and claims issues
- Develop and deliver clear, engaging communication materials (FAQs, guides, announcements)
- Support employee education initiatives to improve understanding and utilization of benefits
- Partner with HR Business Partner to address benefit-related employee concerns
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA)
- Support reporting requirements and benefits audits
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of policies, plan documents, and processes
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze benefits data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
- Make recommendations to enhance programs, processes, and employee experience
- Support implementation of new benefits programs and system enhancements
- Stay current on market trends and regulatory changes to ensure competitiveness
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in benefits administration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. benefits programs and compliance requirements
- Experience working with brokers, vendors, and HRIS/benefits systems
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex employee issues
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear, employee-friendly language
The hourly pay range for this non-exempt role is: $38.00 to $52.00.
