Chief Architect, Imaging/Space

Anduril Imaging Chief Engineers are responsible for system architecture definition, development execution, and overall technical strategy for land, sea, air, and space EO/IR applications. The team is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the system development of our Space Imaging product line.
In this role, you will lead trade studies to define EO/IR system architectures based on detailed performance modeling of the imaging chain, lead the multidisciplinary detailed design, analysis, and integration and test of EO/IR prototypes and products. You will lead a small team of engineers from concept ideation through system definition and development.
A successful candidate will have experience defining and delivering optical systems, understands the end-to-end imaging chain including object phenomenology, atmospheric effects, optical system image quality, detector performance and image processing.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead the full lifecycle development of space optical systems - concept development, prototyping, fielding and deployment on orbit, and transition in to production
- Lead system architecture trade studies of EO/IR wide area imaging systems
- Own system trades during development in conjunction with systems, hardware, and software engineers
- Own interface, both strategic and technical, with customers, internal shareholders, and platform providers
- Derive requirements for detailed system design based on the trade studies and performance models
- Support both laboratory-based and field-based experiments and demonstrations
- Lead and manage small teams of engineers
- Engage technically with the hardware, software, and mission teams to define, integrate, and deliver high performance systems to our customers
- Validate models against laboratory and real world data
- Coordinate and communicate with both external & internal stakeholders with varying degrees of technical background
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of experience working with EO/IR systems, performing any or all of: system design, architecture definition, performance modeling, requirements allocations, as well as laboratory and field testing.
- Strong knowledge and experience with imaging systems
- Experience in system design and development from initial concept through test and delivery to customer
- Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team through design trades while meeting program deadlines
- Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
- Willingness to travel to test sites, as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to decompose complex systems into functional parts, with clearly defined interfaces and requirements for each
- Experience defining and/or designing optical/imaging systems
- Strong laboratory skills (e.g. design of experiments)
- Knowledge of current and next-generation advanced sensing systems and platforms
- Advanced sensing domain experience (e.g., EO/IR, LIDAR)
- Advanced proficiency in an analytical toolchains/languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
- Experience with image processing techniques for EO/IR sensors
US Salary Range
$170,000 - $255,000 USD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
