Staff Electrical Engineer, Advanced Targeting System

Costa Mesa, California, United States

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Our Warfighter Systems division is pioneering a future where mixed reality (MR), creates immersive, intuitive, and life-saving technologies. By seamlessly integrating real-time data with cutting-edge visualization tools, we are empowering warfighters with unparalleled situational awareness, enhanced training experiences, and operational superiority. This team is consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and shaping a future where technology and defense unite to protect our nation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will be part of an exclusive CEO-priority program to deliver a soldier-portable, auto-aiming counter-UAS system (actuator-driven steerable platform, CV models, LIDAR ballistic calculator, onboard power/compute). Your mission is simple and urgent: ensure U.S. warfighters don't get attacked by drones. You will take an existing prototype and drive it through ruggedization and into a Weapon Systems production-ready design with components and processes that can be manufactured at scale.

YOU WILL:

  • Own the electrical architecture end-to-end, assessing the existing prototype, documenting tribal knowledge, and identifying EE-specific gaps across power, sensing, compute, and actuator drive subsystems.
  • Build a technical roadmap that bridges the current prototype to a full Weapon Systems prototype with long-term production-intent parts and architecture.
  • Help hire and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team (EE, ME, SW) capable of rapidly iterating and prototyping complex hardware systems under aggressive timelines.
  • Drive design and integration of EE subsystems, including electro-optical/IR sensors, power and compute boards, actuator drive electronics, and control systems — balancing bandwidth, force, speed, SWaP, and ruggedization trade-offs.
  • Establish and execute test plans for electro-optical, actuator, and power subsystems, and be willing to change course quickly when data demands it in order to get a working product delivered in a short time period.
  • Ruggedize, qualify, and certify the integrated prototype against the shock, vibration, thermal, and environmental conditions expected on a soldier-carried platform.
  • Transition the validated design into early production, collaborating closely with manufacturing, test/evaluation, and supply chain to ensure the design can scale.
  • Communicate program status directly to executive and CEO-level stakeholders, representing the technical state of a high-visibility, high-priority program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional electrical engineering experience with a demonstrated track record of design ownership on complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team to rapidly iterate and prototype hardware systems.
  • Demonstrated experience taking hardware from bench prototype through ruggedization to early manufacturing (prototype-to-production).
  • Familiarity with actuator dynamics — bandwidth, force, and speed trade-offs — and the associated drive electronics and control systems.
  • Breadth across EE subsystems, including electro-optical/IR sensors, power and compute board design, and closed-loop control systems.
  • Ability to author and execute pragmatic test plans, interpret results, and change course when required to deliver a working product on an aggressive timeline.
  • A self-starter mentality, capable of identifying problems, proposing innovative solutions, and executing with minimal oversight.
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience designing for soldier-portable platforms with an instinct for practical SWaP and ergonomic constraints.
  • Experience with sensor fusion, computer vision model integration, and algorithm pipelines at the system level.
  • Background in counter-UAS, fire control, or precision targeting systems.
  • Experience designing for extreme shock, vibration, and environmental sealing in defense or ruggedized applications.
  • Experience communicating program status to executive and CEO-level stakeholders.
  • Active Secret Security clearance (or higher), or prior cleared work with the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance.
