Primary Responsibilities and Competencies:
- Provide support in intellectual property (IP) screening across the company, working with various teams to establish a list of potential patent application opportunities.
- Work with IP leads within the company to capture the most important aspects of potential inventions for decision making.
- For IP acquisitions paths that are to be pursued, draft initial patent application language for further work by IP leads and legal counsel.
- Track and coordinate work on patent applications, reporting on status of each to management.
- As a bedrock member of this important initiative, you will work as part of the Anew Ideas team, a cross-business unit group of tenured professionals focused on innovation and growth across various environmental commodity markets.
- Key competencies for the role include a general familiarity with environmental commodity markets and skills pertinent to drafting of legal documents and IP-related subject matter.
- You will not be expected to be an expert on each topic that IP protection is pursued in, but you will be strongly encouraged to immerse yourself in new areas and develop fluency and a conceptual grasp on a wide range of sustainability-related topics, such as low carbon fuels, nature-based climate solutions, technical climate solutions, life cycle analysis, etc.
Required Education, Experience and Certification:
- Working on Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, legal studies or fields relevant to the intersection of intellectual property protection and sustainability.
- Demonstrated analytical process thinking and problem solving – prior professional experience, internships and/or collegiate research a plus
- Successful project/task management track record. Attention to detail is a must
- Strong skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate analytical data and technical information into layman’s terms
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory environmental policies and markets preferred
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Houston area
