About the team

The Licensing Research Team is a newly-formed team that will be responsible for identifying, documenting, and interpreting the licensing requirements that apply to service professionals across the United States—at the state, county, and city levels. The team will play a foundational role in our platform’s operations, helping to ensure that only skilled service providers are performing work through our platform.

What you’ll do

We're looking for sharp, detail-oriented researchers who are comfortable digging into complex information from government sources. In this role, you’ll investigate licensing requirements at the state, county, and city level for various trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, landscaping) and translate your findings into clear, structured outputs that support our legal, product, and operations teams.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys independent research, thrives in ambiguity, and takes pride in getting the details right.

  • Research licensing requirements across federal, state, and local governments for a wide variety of home service tasks.
  • Translate research into clear and actionable license requirements: identify what type of license (if any) is required, which authority issues it, and under what conditions.
  • Track down hard-to-find information through creative tactics like interviews with service professionals or government agencies.
  • Make thoughtful, well-reasoned judgment calls when licensing requirements are ambiguous, conflicting, or incomplete, and clearly document the rationale behind those decisions.
  • Escalate edge cases as needed.
  • Maintain structured documentation using internal tools and templates.
  • Collaborate with the research manager and other team members to improve research methods, tools, and documentation standards.

Who you are

  • 1+ years of experience in research, compliance, legal support, public policy, or a similarly analytical role.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret government regulations and websites.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making logical, well-documented judgments when information is unclear.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong written communication skills—able to translate complex info into clear actionable requirements.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage your own workload in a remote environment.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with construction, trades licensing, permitting, or municipal government processes.

We value diversity

We know that the best ideas come from teams where diverse points of view uncover new solutions to hard problems. We welcome and value individuals who bring diverse life experiences, educational backgrounds, cultures, and work experiences.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary band for this position ranges $56,500 - $60,000 commensurate with experience and performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as cost of living.
  • This position will be eligible for a competitive year end performance bonus & equity package.
  • Full medical, dental, vision package to fit your needs
  • Flexible vacation policy; work hard and take time when you need it
  • Pet discount plans & retirement plan with company match (401K)
  • The rare opportunity to work with sharp, motivated teammates solving some of the most unique challenges and changing the world
