About the role

The UX Team at Angi is looking for a contract Principal level Design Strategist to lead a qualitative and ethnographic initiative focused on uncovering the deep, latent needs of homeowners across the entire lifecycle of home services. This work is foundational; its output will directly inform product and service strategy for Angi's core marketplace.

This is a temporary remote position that offers the opportunity to work on a part-time or full-time basis. The hourly rate for this role ranges between $80.00-$100.00/hour.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct and own mobile ethnographic research, leading multi-modal research, utilizing a mix of qualitative methods to explore both user behaviors and attitudes
  • Focus on deeply understanding user needs, behaviors, and motivations of homeowners to guide product and strategy decisions
  • Champion and teach the value of ethnographic research methods to the broader UX Research team
  • Advocate for users by synthesizing research findings into actionable insights, ensuring they are directly relevant to strategy initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure research aligns with business objectives and customer needs
  • Apply research best practices to ensure high-quality, rigorous work

Who you are

  • Principal-Level: 12+ years relevant experience and a proven ability to lead and deliver strategic research engagements in a fast-paced, business-focused environment
  • Multi-modal Expertise: Have designed, launched, and managed a sophisticated, multi-phase qualitative study (specifically longitudinal diary studies, in-person ethnography, and in-depth interviews) across multiple cohorts
  • Strategic Synthesis: Comfort and consistent experience translating complex multi-modal qualitative datasets into concise and meaningful learnings, behaviors, emotional drivers, and pain points
  • Compelling Storytelling: Build and present a compelling, evidence-based narrative combining empathy and business opportunity that directly influences roadmap decisions
  • Marketplace & Product Acumen: Prior experience working within a two-sided marketplace (e.g., home services, gig economy, e-commerce) is highly preferred
  • Business-Focused: Must be comfortable operating with high ambiguity and working side-by-side with business and strategy partners

We value diversity

We know that the best ideas come from teams where diverse points of view uncover new solutions to hard problems. We welcome and value individuals who bring diverse life experiences, educational backgrounds, cultures, and work experiences.
