Ophthalmologist
The Schwarzman Animal Medical (SAMC) center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Board-Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist to join our team as we move into our new hospital and expand our service. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, treating and managing ocular diseases and disorders in a variety of small animal species. The role also involves collaborating with other veterinary specialists while providing comprehensive patient care. As a teaching hospital, SAMC and this position also teaches residents. Interns, Specialty Interns, LVTs as well as participation in public education programs through our USDAN Institute.
About The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center: SAMC is the largest teaching, non-profit in the US. Each year, we see over 56,000 clients, providing 24/7 access to emergency room care as well as being the only level 1 trauma center in New York City. Our new facility and renovation will be completed by the end of 2025. The ophthalmology department will have its own self-contained unit with the appropriate equipment essential to your success. The team also accesses the state-of-the-art operating suite equipped with a new Zeiss VISU 210 surgical microscope and a Bausch & Lomb Stellaris phacofragmentation unit.

Specialist duties and responsibilities:
- Advanced training and education as required by DACVO Guidelines
- Diagnose and treat ocular conditions in small animals, including assisting our exotics department as indicated with ophthalmology related diseases
- Work closely with veterinary teams and referring DVMs to develop and implement plans of care
- Educate clients and public on all aspects of eye care
- Actively teach and be a positive mentor to Interns, Residents, Specialty Interns, LVTs, visiting veterinarians and visiting veterinary students.
- Manage a complex case load, completing all medical records and ensure effective communication with clients and referring veterinarians
- Regularly participates in Grand Rounds and staff meetings
- Collaborate with other specialists and build positive relationships throughout SAMC.
- Is expected to be a positive role model and good citizen of SAMC

$210,000 - $270,000 USD
