Veterinary Assistant (SIVA) Internal Medicine
Assistant must have a solid foundation as a veterinary assistant with exceptional knowledge and skill, working as part of the Internal Medicine team to continue to provide extremely high standards of veterinary care.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years veterinary assistant experience in a Veterinary Specialty Hospital preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding environment, demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines while paying attention to details.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative but also able to work as part of a team.
- Must be experienced and proficient in handling, a clear communicator and efficient in the supportive Veterinary assistant role during procedures.
- Must be proficient in handling sensitive instruments and equipment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work well and be composed in stressful situations.
- Must be able to follow detailed protocols
- Must be organized and able to complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Restrain patients for routine examinations, IV catheter placement, blood draws, induction and recovery
- Infection control: cleaning and disinfecting of work areas, instruments, equipment and cages.
- Place daily central supply order, including special outside orders
- Weekly checks for expired medications
- Work with LVT to complete anesthesia machine maintenance checklist twice weekly
- Set up for simple procedures in Endoscopy, Dialysis, Treatment Room and surgery prep.
- Along with LVT, set up for complex procedures, including those involving fluoroscopy.
- Coordinate with IM LVT’s for procedure set up and timing
- Assist doctors during procedures (scopes, foreign body retrievals) as needed by DVM, within the parameters of the law.
- Clean equipment after procedures and turn over room in preparation for next procedure
- Clean/sterilize and maintain equipment (Automatic Endoscope Processor, Microscope, Endoscopes, lead gowns).
- Clean workspace at the end of the day: take out trash and recyclables, replace sharp containers
- Maintain supply of clean laundry, dirty laundry to housekeeping as needed
- Assist in the cleaning/maintenance of the dialysis room as needed.
- Along with LVT’s troubleshoot equipment problems
- Operate Cone Beam CT and Fluoro unit
- Set CO2, and diode laser
- Set up endoscopy laser in Surgery as needed
- Work with Team Leader/Manager to schedule PM’s
- Work with Team Leader/Manager to assist with training new staff in set up for procedures and use of specialized equipment.
- Work with Team Leader/Manager to identify the need for new equipment and liaison with dept head for approval.
- Input test results into patient record as needed.
- Any duty deemed necessary

Pay Range
$17.30 - $22 USD
