Position Summary
The Executive Director of the GA MSL Team is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team focused on Geographic Atrophy (GA). This role involves building and guiding a high-performing MSL team, establishing and tracking performance metrics, and ensuring alignment with cross-functional goals and regulatory compliance. The Director will also develop and execute a comprehensive scientific communication and exchange plan to support the GA program and contribute to the overall success of the Medical Affairs department. This position will report to the Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the development and execution of Scientific communication and exchange plan with neurologists, EM specialists, and other members of the care team responsible for the diagnosis and management of patients with GA.
• Build GA MSL Team by hiring, onboarding, and training a Team of qualified MSLs in support of the GA program.
• Establish KPIs for the MSL Team and tracking of performance outcomes/metrics relative to set goals for individual MSL, Team, and themselves.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners including but not limited to Research, development, translational medicine, legal, regulatory affairs, and finance to ensure goals and plans are aligned and in compliance with those of the Annexon organization.
• Independently develop annual and strategic plan for the MSL Team that are compliant and support the overall GA program goals and objectives.
• Mentor and coach direct reports through appropriate field work.
• Acts, and is accountable for others in his/her team acting, in complete & total compliance with all laws, regulations and Annexon policies.
• Support the professional and personal development of direct reports.
• Collaborate with VP, Medical Affairs, Dir., Scientific Communications/Content, and Head, MA Operations to support development and attainment of Medical Affairs departmental goals and objectives.
• In partnership with Sr. Manager, MA Operations, liaise with CRM vendor to ensure timely utilization of CRM tools and processes.
• Business travel, by air or car, is regularly required.

Qualifications
• Post graduate degree (PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) in Life or Medical Sciences is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 or more years' work experience.
• A minimum of 2 years' previous field management experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry.
• A minimum of 5 years' previous direct experience working with Thought Leaders in Medical Affairs.
• Proven and thorough knowledge of scientific and commercial issues associated with the relevant therapeutic areas and products.
• Proven experience in launch readiness and execution is a plus.
• Previous experience in same therapeutic area(s) is highly preferred.
• Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding qualitative or quantitative targets and goals.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing attainable national-level plans for an MSL Team.
