Head of Inside Sales

Emeryville, CA

Ansa is looking for a Head of Inside Sales to build and scale our inside sales function as we expand commercialization. This quota-carrying role reports to Ansa's Director of Sales Operations and Customer Experience.  Excitingly, this role offers a rare opportunity to build a foundational function from the ground up. Initially an individual contributor role, this position will generate qualified leads for our field sales team and manage the third-party partner running our outbound lead generation (email, phone, and LinkedIn outreach). As processes and systems mature and lead generation reaches a satisfactory pace, this role will grow into building and leading an inside sales team. You'll join a diverse team of scientists, software developers, manufacturing, commercial experts and more who are collaborating to deliver DNA — especially long and complex — to researchers in record time.

If you are early in your sales career, hungry to prove yourself, and excited by the opportunity to build something special at a growth-stage company, then we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Generate qualified leads for the field sales team through any and all appropriate sources, including but not limited to outbound prospecting via phone, email, and LinkedIn
  • Engage with clients and pull Opportunities through the funnel to an Order.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with Ansa's third-party outbound lead generation partner, including setting targets, reviewing performance, and refining messaging and targeting
  • Establish and continuously improve lead qualification criteria, scoring, and hand-off processes between inside sales and field sales
  • Build and document repeatable processes and systems — sequences, cadences, CRM workflows — that can scale as the function grows
  • Partner with sales and marketing colleagues to align messaging, target account lists, and ideal customer profiles; including but not limited to Director of Marketing, Director of Product Management, Director of SO/CX, VP of Commercial Operations
  • Track and report on pipeline metrics (lead volume, conversion rates, meetings set) and use data to continuously refine outreach strategy
  • Stay current on Ansa's product portfolio, competitive landscape, and customer use cases in order to have credible, informed conversations with prospects
  • Recognize matters needing attention or escalation and initiate action by communicating to appropriate colleagues and/or manager to drive resolution
  • Once processes are established and lead generation is consistently hitting targets, build the case for, hire, and lead an inside sales team
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to relay customer and prospect feedback and market intelligence

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of successful individual contributor experience in inside sales, with a demonstrated track record of generating pipeline and hitting targets
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a lead, or preferably managing an inside sales team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
  • Experience managing outsourced or third-party lead generation vendors a plus
  • Experience with CRM and sales engagement tools (e.g., Salesforce, Outreach, Salesloft, LinkedIn Sales Navigator)
  • Hungry for a growth opportunity and coachable, and genuinely excited by the opportunity to build foundational processes at a growth-stage company
  • Life sciences, biotech, or research tools industry experience is required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable prospecting via phone, email, and social channels
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable operating with ambiguity and building processes from scratch
  • Strong results orientation and bias for action
  • Ability to think strategically about lead generation strategy while executing tactically day-to-day
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently with broad guidance against a framework
  • Commitment to demonstrating kindness, respect, and collaboration with a diverse set of colleagues of different backgrounds and disciplines

What We Offer:

  • Competitive hourly pay and equity, with a consistent Monday–Friday day-shift schedule
  • Generous benefits package including health, dental, and vision
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment
  • The opportunity to be part of a company at the forefront of synthetic biology and innovation
  • San Francisco Bay Area Pay Range - $130k-$150k, depending upon experience
