Location: Boston, MA
Job Summary
Antares Therapeutics is seeking an accomplished, technically driven Sr. Scientist II/ Principal Scientist to join our Chemical Biology team. This is a senior individual-contributor role for a proteomics and mass spectrometry expert who can independently drive chemoproteomic target discovery and validation efforts, as well as hit identification and characterization, in support of our small molecule discovery portfolio. As a member of the team, you will develop and deploy novel mass spectrometry-based proteomic approaches for target identification, methods to elucidate mechanisms of action, and validate engagement through cycles of hit identification and SAR advancement. Achieving these objectives will involve the application of innovative chemoproteomic methodologies and the utilization of advanced HPLC and mass spectroscopy (MS) instrumentation, as well as participating in project teams. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment at the intersection of chemistry and biology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the chemical biology functional lead on programs, reporting and presenting discovery evidence for multiple small-molecule programs
- Propose and enable the development of new proteomic workflows and evaluate emerging mass spectrometry strategies and approaches
- Design and execute quantitative proteomics experiments using data-independent acquisition (DIA) or other targeted workflows
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and communicate findings at internal meetings. Pro-actively propose chemical proteomic experiments to support project advancement. Maintain accurate and detailed up-to-date laboratory records and electronic notebooks
- Maintain and tune Orbitrap-based mass spectrometer and HPLC instrumentation
- Engage with data science team to develop and adapt proteomic data analysis pipelines
- Mentor junior scientists, provide broad scientific direction, establish best practices, and act as a technical authority internally and in the external scientific community
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- PhD. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Proteomics, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline with at a minimum 8+ years of relevant industry and/or postdoctoral experience
- Deep experience in operating and maintaining mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography instrumentation is required
- Expertise in MS-based proteomic methods to study protein/peptide modification, protein interactions, protein turnover, and/or targets using enrichment methods is required
- Experience in MS-based sample preparation and target enrichment approaches is required
- Experience in small molecule drug mechanisms of action (e.g., covalent ligands, molecular glues, PROTACs, etc.) is desirable
- Knowledge/experience with activity-based protein profiling (ABPP) is desirable
- Familiarity with Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, DIA-NN, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, or related proteomics software is desirable
- Programming experience and data analysis (g., Python or R) for statistical analysis, visualization, and interpretation of large biological datasets is desirable
- Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity, including pipetting, sample preparation, and operation of analytical instrumentation
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $170,000-$205,000 annually. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
