
Scientist III/Sr. Scientist, Strain Engineering (Singapore)

The Scientist in Strain Engineering is a highly motivated scientist working to engineer microbial strains for the production of valuable natural products. They have a strong background in DNA assembly and genetic engineering techniques as well as microbial metabolism and physiology. The ability to communicate well, and to interact with others in a small, dynamic and fast-paced environment, is essential.
Responsibilities Include:
- Engineer microbial strains for the production of valuable natural products
- Design and evaluate expression and activity of new enzymes and entire pathways
- Develop and test metabolic engineering strategies to improve key performance metrics
- Evaluate engineered strains in small scale assays and work closely with the fermentation team to validate strains in tanks
- Critically evaluate data to understand how strain genotype effects small and large scale performance and physiology
- Develop and/or introduce new methods to increase throughput and efficiency of DNA construction and genetic engineering
- Perform other duties as assigned[1]
Qualifications/Experience:
- D in molecular biology, microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering or a related field, or Master’s with 7+ years of industrial experience
- Proven track record of genetic engineering of microorganisms
- Solid understanding of yeast and microbial metabolism, physiology, and fermentation
- Experience with diverse microbial hosts preferred
- Experience with high-throughput screening, directed evolution, CRISPR/Cas9 and advanced cloning techniques preferred
- Experience with enzyme engineering and biochemistry preferred
- Experience with natural product biosynthesis, enzymology, and characterization a plus
