About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
We are seeking a creative and technically skilled individual to develop and deliver compelling product demonstrations for policymakers, government officials, and policy influencers. As a key member of our policy team, you will play a crucial role in Anthropic's mission to build beneficial AI by effectively communicating the capabilities, opportunities, and potential risks of our technology to decision-makers and thought leaders in the policy sphere.
Your work will span a range of audiences and use cases, from demonstrating national security implications to showcasing government service applications. You'll also create demos that help policy professionals understand how to use Claude, explain various features, and illustrate how models are trained and deployed. Your demos will be instrumental in helping policymakers envision the impact of AI on their work and their constituents' lives, while also conveying the transformative potential and scalability of the technology.
This role demands a unique blend of technical understanding, policy acumen, creativity, and strong communication skills. You'll collaborate closely with our research and technical teams to build grounded and impactful demos, while also working with non-technical policy team members to ensure the demonstrations resonate with diverse policy audiences. Your ability to "show, not tell" our AI policy views through hands-on demonstrations will be key to influencing understanding and decision-making at the highest levels of government.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of recorded demos and guidebooks for various live demo flows, covering a wide range of policy-relevant scenarios and use cases
- Create demonstrations that effectively communicate frontier capabilities across enterprise, public sector, and national security contexts, highlighting both opportunities and risks
- Design demos that illustrate advances in capabilities across model generations and convey the pace of progress in the field
- Craft demonstrations that provide insights into near-future capabilities likely to have significant societal or national security impacts
- Develop accessible demos to help non-technical audiences understand the basics of how AI models function
- Translate complex technical research insights into broadly accessible demonstration material
- Collaborate with internal research and technical teams to ensure demos accurately represent our technology's capabilities and limitations
- Work closely with policy team members to identify and develop demos tailored to specific policy audiences and objectives
- Deliver live demonstrations to high-level government officials, policymakers, and influencers with clarity and impact
- Continuously innovate on demonstration techniques to effectively convey Anthropic's AI policy views through hands-on experiences
You may be a good fit if you have:
- 5+ years of experience in a technical role related to AI/ML, with a strong understanding of large language models and their applications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Experience working with or presenting to government officials, policymakers, or in policy-adjacent roles
- Strong creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop novel demonstration concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adjust your style for various audiences
- An understanding of the policy implications of AI technology, particularly in areas like national security, government services, and public sector applications
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI/ML (e.g., Python) and familiarity with relevant frameworks and tools
- Experience in creating technical demonstrations, presentations, or educational content
- A passion for Anthropic's mission of building beneficial AI and a keen interest in the intersection of AI and public policy
- Comfort with occasional travel to deliver demonstrations in key policy locations (e.g., Washington D.C., Brussels, London)
- A bias for action, speed, and simplicity in executing projects
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
Strong candidates may also have:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related technical field
- Prior experience working in a government agency, think tank, or policy organization
- Background in user experience (UX) design or data visualization
- Familiarity with Anthropic's Responsible Scaling Policy and thoughts on AI governance and coordination
This role offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI technology and policy-making, playing a crucial part in shaping the future of AI governance and adoption. If you're passionate about translating complex technological concepts into impactful, accessible demonstrations that can influence policy decisions at the highest levels, we'd love to hear from you.

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
