Data Science & Analytics Lead, Strategic Insights
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
As an early member of our Data Science team, you will play an instrumental role in our company's mission of building safe and beneficial artificial intelligence by driving effectiveness through data-driven insights and analytics. We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to lead Strategic Insights at Anthropic. In this horizontal role, you will work across all of our data challenges to identify next opportunity areas, handle ongoing business reporting needs, analyze quarterly trends, and provide ongoing storytelling that informs key strategic decisions. You'll be a critical partner to leadership teams across the organization, translating complex data into actionable insights that drive Anthropic's mission forward.
As our Strategic Insights lead, you'll have the unique opportunity to shape how we understand and measure success across our research, product, and business functions. You'll work closely with teams spanning from AI safety research to go-to-market, helping to surface patterns and opportunities that might otherwise remain hidden in our rapidly growing datasets.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional strategic insights initiatives, identifying high-impact opportunities for data-driven decision making across the organization
- Design and maintain comprehensive business reporting frameworks that provide clear visibility into key performance indicators and trends
- Conduct quarterly business reviews and trend analyses, synthesizing findings into compelling narratives for executive leadership and board presentations
- Partner with research, product, engineering, sales, and operations teams to understand their data needs and translate business questions into analytical frameworks
- Build and maintain strategic dashboards and reporting tools that enable self-service analytics across the organization
- Drive adoption of data-driven decision making by creating accessible visualizations and presentations that communicate complex insights to non-technical stakeholders
- Identify emerging patterns in user behavior, model performance, and business metrics that could inform strategic pivots or new opportunities
- Collaborate with our Data Engineering and Analytics teams to ensure data quality and accessibility for strategic analysis
- Lead ad-hoc deep-dive analyses on critical business questions, from competitive landscape assessment to market opportunity sizing
- Establish best practices for strategic reporting and insights generation as we scale
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or strategic insights roles, with a track record of driving business impact through data
- Have experience leading strategic analytics functions at high-growth technology companies, preferably in AI/ML, SaaS, or related fields
- Are skilled at translating complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for executive audiences
- Have strong proficiency in SQL, Python/R, and data visualization tools (e.g., Hex, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
- Have experience building and maintaining automated reporting systems and dashboards
- Are comfortable working with ambiguous problems and can independently scope and prioritize analytical projects
- Have excellent communication skills and can effectively present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Thrive in fast-paced environments and can balance multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously
- Care about AI safety and are excited by the opportunity to contribute to Anthropic's mission
Strong candidates may also have:
- Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Operations Research, etc.)
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS) and modern data stack tools
- Background in statistical modeling, experimentation, and causal inference
- Experience with AI/ML model evaluation and performance metrics
- Knowledge of business strategy frameworks and competitive analysis methodologies

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco.
