About the role:
As Head of Treasury at Anthropic, you will be instrumental in building and leading our treasury function as we scale. This is a foundational leadership role where you'll establish comprehensive treasury strategies, optimize our capital structure, and ensure robust financial risk management that supports our mission to develop safe and beneficial AI systems. You'll report to the CFO and work closely with executive leadership to navigate complex financial decisions while building scalable treasury processes that support our rapid growth and capital-intensive AI research operations.
Responsibilities:
Treasury Strategy & Capital Management:
- Develop and execute comprehensive treasury strategies that optimize our capital structure and liquidity position
- Lead capital structure optimization, including debt and equity financing strategies and cost of capital analysis
- Oversee strategic capital allocation decisions and investment policies to support business growth
- Partner with cross-functional teams on treasury aspects of business expansions, M&A transactions, and strategic initiatives
Cash & Liquidity Management:
- Oversee all treasury operations including cash management, forecasting, and liquidity planning
- Implement cash concentration and pooling strategies across global operations
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasting models and liquidity stress testing frameworks
- Optimize working capital management and payment processes
Banking & Financial Relationships:
- Manage banking relationships and negotiate credit facilities, investment agreements, and other treasury-related contracts
- Lead debt refinancing initiatives and capital markets transactions
- Oversee relationships with financial institutions, rating agencies, and institutional investors
- Negotiate and maintain credit agreements and ensure compliance with debt covenants
Risk Management:
- Develop and implement treasury policies and financial risk management frameworks
- Manage interest rate, foreign exchange, and credit risk exposures
- Implement hedging strategies and derivative instruments as appropriate
- Monitor and report on key treasury metrics and risk indicators
Leadership & Operations:
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing treasury team
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and other departments to support strategic business initiatives
- Drive process improvements and automation to enhance treasury operations efficiency
- Provide strategic counsel to the C-suite and board on treasury and capital markets matters
- Ensure robust internal controls and compliance with treasury policies
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 10+ years of progressive treasury and corporate finance experience, with significant leadership responsibility
- Have experience building treasury functions in high-growth technology environments
- Possess deep knowledge of cash management, capital markets, and financial risk management
- Have experience with debt and equity financing, including negotiating credit facilities and investment agreements
- Are skilled in financial modeling, capital structure optimization, and cost of capital analysis
- Have managed banking relationships and worked with rating agencies and institutional investors
- Hold an MBA in Finance, CPA, CFA, or equivalent advanced degree in finance or related field
- Have experience advising senior leadership on complex treasury and capital allocation decisions
- Are results-oriented with a track record of optimizing treasury operations and reducing costs
Strong candidates may also have:
- Experience at a public technology company or high-growth startup through capital markets events
- Background in interest rate and foreign exchange risk management
- Knowledge of derivative instruments and hedging strategies
- Experience with capital-intensive business models and large-scale financing requirements
- Familiarity with AI/ML industry capital requirements and investor landscape
- Technical skills in treasury management systems, automation, and data analysis
- Experience with M&A transactions from a treasury and financing perspective
- Background in pension and employee benefit plan asset management
- Experience with international treasury operations and multi-currency management
The expected salary range for this position is:
Annual Salary:
$370,000 - $570,000 USD
Logistics
Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
