Technical Program Manager, Compute Partnerships
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager to own and drive programs that are primarily focused on aligning technical roadmaps and driving execution between our internal engineering teams and the engineering teams at our major cloud partners.
Our AI models are available on both our own first-party platforms (claude.ai and our API) as well as on Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex. We must ensure tight coordination between our internal teams and our external partner teams to enable repeatable and efficient product development and launch pipelines. You will be responsible for aligning a range of business and technical stakeholders both within and outside Anthropic to drive execution of technical roadmaps.
You will partner across the organization to track and oversee critical workstreams with our strategic partners and advise on our company partnership strategy. This role is a close partner to the technical team responsible for securing enough good compute for Anthropic to stay on the frontier and making sure our partnerships help us achieve our broader company goals. The role combines operations with corporate strategy, technical program management, external partnership development, and risk management. We are seeking out someone who loves driving clarity from ambiguity, rallying colleagues around a clear goal, running a diverse set of programs, and driving effective decision making at the executive level.
As one of the members of the company’s centralized TPM team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a foundational impact as you contribute to the scaling of the TPM function for the company. Though your primary focus will be on our compute partnerships, you may also have the opportunity to drive other programs that span the broader Engineering org and the company.
Extremely strong soft skills are paramount, as our team will be front and center in driving lots of company-wide changes and top priority initiatives that require generating buy-in, balancing various opinions, and competing for attention in our rapidly scaling environment.
This role is a great fit for someone who has both seen excellence at scale and operated in rapidly scaling, high-ambiguity teams and scope. We are seeking candidates with deep TPM expertise but who are comfortable acting as adaptable generalists who add value fast.
We excel at maintaining a broad view of our work but diving deep into the details when necessary. We understand business goals, translate and organize them into technical programs and projects, and drive execution. We are adept at engaging with both non-technical and technical stakeholders at all levels of the company, including executive leadership.
Job responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional coordination across GTM, Finance, Comms, Engineering, and Product to define, scope, and sequence major initiatives that are critical to the success of our compute partnerships
- Collaborate with engineering leaders to define, scope, and sequence major technical initiatives and projects.
- Lead cross-functional coordination and planning for multiple complex engineering projects, acting as the glue between product, engineering, and external partners.
- Own the relationship with key stakeholders at our large-scale cloud providers, partnering with them to develop and execute on shared technical roadmaps.
- Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resourcing strategies for technical projects and initiatives.
- Develop and manage systems, processes, and tools to support technical program management and increase team productivity.
- Establish scalable program management frameworks, playbooks, and best practices.
- Provide clear and transparent reporting on program status, issues, and risks to executives and stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of accountability, rigor, and continuous improvement on the technical program management team.
You might be a good fit if you have:
- 10+ years of leadership experience with technical program management, business and operations teams
- Experience in managing or navigating complex external partnerships, up to and including executive-level communications
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to influence and build support across the organization
- A track record managing critical, cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced, scaling tech environments, bringing order to chaos
- The ability to drive clarity and effective decision making while balancing strategic priorities with rapid, high-quality execution
- A strong understanding of cloud computing and AI/ML infrastructure
- A passion for Anthropic's mission and ensuring safe AI development

We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
