Media Planning and Strategy Lead

San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

As the Media Planning and Strategy Lead Anthropic, you will develop and fully own and execute comprehensive media strategies that build awareness for Anthropic and Claude across our target audiences. You'll be a strategic leader within the Marketing organization, working at the intersection of brand building and performance marketing to ensure our media investments drive meaningful business impact.

In this role, you'll own the end-to-end media strategy—from channel mix planning and budget allocation to campaign optimization and measurement. You'll partner closely with our Brand, Growth, Product Marketing, and Marketing Data Science teams to translate business objectives into media plans that reach the right audiences at the right moments. You'll also manage relationships with media agencies and vendors, bringing both strategic oversight and hands-on expertise to ensure excellent execution.

This is an opportunity to shape how one of the most important AI companies communicates with the world. You'll help define how we show up across digital, broadcast, audio, out-of-home, and emerging channels—balancing brand awareness goals with performance marketing objectives in a fast-moving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own Anthropic's integrated media strategy across all channels, including digital, broadcast, audio (podcasts, streaming), out-of-home, print, and emerging platforms
  • Lead media planning and buying for brand campaigns, product launches, and always-on initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives and target audience insights
  • Manage media budgets and optimize allocation across channels based on performance data, market dynamics, and strategic priorities
  • Partner with Marketing Data Science to establish measurement frameworks, attribution models, and reporting that demonstrate media impact and inform optimization decisions
  • Oversee relationships with media agencies, vendors, and platform partners, ensuring strategic alignment, excellent execution, and accountability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Brand, Growth, Product Marketing, and Communications teams to ensure media strategies support broader marketing and business goals
  • Stay current on media landscape trends, emerging platforms, and competitive activity in the AI industry to identify opportunities and inform strategy
  • Build and refine processes for media planning, execution, and reporting that scale with the organization's growth
  • Support international market expansion by developing media strategies tailored to key global markets
  • Present media strategies, performance insights, and recommendations to marketing leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have 12+ years of experience in media planning and strategy, with at least 5 years in a leadership role at a brand, agency, or technology company
  • Have a proven track record of developing and executing integrated media strategies across digital, traditional, and emerging channels
  • Are highly analytical and comfortable using data to inform strategy, optimize campaigns, and demonstrate ROI
  • Have experience managing significant media budgets and making strategic trade-offs to maximize impact
  • Are skilled at managing agency relationships and holding partners accountable for strategic alignment and execution quality
  • Can translate business objectives into actionable media plans and communicate strategy clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and can balance long-term strategic planning with rapid iteration
  • Have strong cross-functional collaboration skills and enjoy working with diverse teams across marketing, product, and communications
  • Are passionate about Anthropic's mission to develop AI that is safe and beneficial

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience in the technology sector, particularly with AI, developer tools, or enterprise software products
  • Background in both brand marketing and performance marketing, with an understanding of how media strategies differ across the funnel
  • Experience with international media planning and navigating diverse market dynamics
  • Familiarity with marketing mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, and other advanced measurement approaches
  • Experience building media capabilities and processes at a high-growth company
  • Understanding of the AI industry landscape, including key audiences, competitive dynamics, and emerging use cases

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
