People Legal Specialist
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced People Legal Specialist to join our growing legal team and serve as the operational backbone for a small, high-impact team that advises on how Anthropic interacts with the people who power our mission: employees, candidates, advisors, and contingent workers globally. You will be a trusted project manager and process-builder, working under the guidance of legal counsel to keep employment matters running efficiently so our attorneys can focus on the thorniest strategic questions. You will partner closely with colleagues on the Litigation & Regulatory team and People team operations functions to help the People Legal team scale its support for a rapidly growing, globally distributed workforce at the frontier of AI.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor incoming claims, demands, and agency inquiries to ensure Anthropic responds in a timely and appropriate manner; maintain matter-tracking systems and keep stakeholders informed of status
- Act as the primary operational link between People Legal and partner teams to ensure context-rich handoffs and integrated, efficient delivery of legal support
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to legal matters, including managing case files and calendars
- Handle personnel document requests, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and timely responses to requests
- Support attorneys with legal research, document preparation, and template management; help distill work product into clear, actionable formats for internal stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and leverage tools—including Claude—to reduce repetitive work and free up team bandwidth for higher-value contributions
- Flex beyond core responsibilities as the team's needs evolve, pitching in on special projects and cross-functional initiatives as they arise
You may be a good fit if you have:
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in legal operations or paralegal role in a corporate legal department or similar experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated the ability to exercise good judgment and maintain the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive legal matters.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements within the legal department.
- Comfort building processes from scratch, not just executing on established playbooks
Strong candidates may have:
- Comfort experimenting with AI tools to make legal operations more efficient, or a genuine curiosity about learning to do so
- 2+ years of experience working in a high-growth tech company, with exposure to US and international employment matters
- Demonstrated the ability to think critically and creatively problem-solve, adapting to new challenges and finding innovative solutions to complex legal issues.
- Familiarity with legal project management software, such as Asana, Trello, or Jira, and a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies to streamline legal processes.
- Experience using legal research databases (PACER, LexisNexis, Pohlman, Westlaw)

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
