About the Role 

Apaleo Pay is our payments product. It complements our property management platform, so your team's work shows up directly in revenue. It runs as its own service, so the team owns what it builds and what it runs. 
We are migrating Apaleo Pay to Adyen's newer platform and taking on more responsibility for payments, including security and resilience. Beyond the migration, there is room to grow the product and win more customers. 
This is a hybrid role. You spend at least 30% of your time as a hands-on engineer with your team, and the rest leading people, delivery and process. You also join our engineering leadership team.  

What You’ll Be Up To 

  • Help every engineer do their best work: build their skills, find their next step and grow without being forced down a single path. 
  • Build a team that works as one unit, where everyone feels included heard. 
  • Earn the trust of experienced engineers and coach people at different stages of their careers. 
  • Work with the Product Manager to deliver real customer value: shape scope, estimate honestly and make sure work gets finished. 
  • Own the team's way of working and keep improving it. 
  • Help the team make technical decisions without over-analysis. You facilitate; you don't decide alone. 
  • Guide the team through the Adyen platform migration, with a strong focus on security and resilience. 
  • Lead hiring, onboarding and team composition as the team grows. 
  • Champion modern engineering practices: continuous delivery, DORA metrics, a blameless incident culture and an AI-driven development pipeline. 
  • Bring company-wide engineering initiatives into the team and bring the team's needs back out. 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Empathy, genuine interest in people and the confidence to give and act upon feedback. 
  • Clear, target-oriented and appreciative Communication. Professional English (C1). 
  • A solid grasp of digital product development principles: Agile, Lean, DevOps, continuous delivery and how an idea travels from customer insight to impact. 
  • Comfort with being both a leader and a builder, and clarity on how you balance the two. 
  • A pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset and a love of learning. You use AI in your own work and have a view on how it changes engineering teams. 
  • Senior-level software engineering experience on a modern web technology stack. 
  • Experience with distributed systems, message-driven architecture and the cloud. 

Nice to Have 

  • Genuine interest in payments, or experience with payment service providers or fintech.
