Coordinador(a) de Eventos y Ministerio/Events and Ministry Coordinator (Onsite)

This is a volunteer role.  A rent concession is provided for the apartment unit. The coordinator is responsible only for utilities.

The Events and Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for excellence in executing the service plan of Apartment Life. Specifically, they work with their Apartment Life supervisor to prepare a monthly schedule to serve through events and programming in order to meet the needs of each community. Programming can include resident events, workshops/classes for adults and families, resourcing activities and welcoming new residents. This role internally will be called Coordinator of Resident Services.
 
Important Details:
  • The coordinator role is part time, volunteer, serving 2 small communities housing University/College students located in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
  • The coordinator will live onsite at the community and must be able to accommodate a studio apartment unit which is ideal for a single adult.
  • It is not a paid role.  A rent concession is provided for the apartment unit by the management.  The coordinator is responsible only for monthly utilities. 
  • The volunteer role can be completed during evenings and weekends.
  • The coordinator will plan and host several activities each month to promote social engagement, wellness, health, enrichment, and stability.
  • The coordinator will create a monthly schedule that includes community activities and/or workshops.
Volunteer Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with corporate, government, and nonprofit partners to create programs that fit each community's needs.
  • Organize and host educational workshops for adults. 
  • Meet with residents to provide support and connect them with resources
  • Share information about rental, food, and other assistance programs
  • Overall all activities to ensure they run smoothly
  • Communicate regularly with onsite staff
  • Meet weekly with your supervisor to review program and goals
  • Submit monthly reports on activities and impact

 

Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required (bilingual)
  • Be legally eligible to serve in Puerto Rico
  • Experience in event planning, social impact, ministry, or human services
  • Excellent listening/communication skills in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
  • Ability to provide after-hours or weekend activities as needed
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to compose marketing elements for the community and required reports
  • Access to a form of reliable transportation to complete coordinator duties such as shopping for events and connecting with vendors
  • Be physically able to use stairs, bend, sit, stand, stoop, and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Have the availability to commit weekly time to serve and complete volunteer responsibilities, mainly in the evenings and weekends when most residents are home
  • Be able to make the minimum volunteer term commitment to serving in the apartment community
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving at-risk populations and students
  • Previous event planning experience
  • Experience working within a budget
  • Some relevant experience using social media
  • Have a network of support through potential volunteers, vendors, or community partners
