Role Overview:

This role is to provide overarching occupational health and safety expertise to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last 25 years Apex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve their Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomic and Safety Engineering goals.  The incumbent will serve as a Sr. Industrial Hygiene contractor to their Everett, WA facility. This role will be a full-time, onsite position. The client has requested 5 days a week/8-hour day, day shift.

The incumbent will not only implement Industrial Hygiene support for the shop floor/work area but will also provide instrumental support to the EHS team in management of the client’s health and safety programs. The incumbent will be highly knowledgeable of applicable Federal and State Occupational Safety and Health Regulatory Requirements.  

The role will routinely involve a blend of (1) workplace / shop floor employee personal and area exposure assessments, and (2) Occupational Safety and Health program management effectiveness evaluations and continuous improvement support. 

While the prominent technical area associated with this position is Occupational Industrial Hygiene, a general base of knowledge of safety will be highly valuable. The incumbent will also provide project leadership and project management functions to deploy a national program at the local site.  Perhaps most importantly, the incumbent will be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as a team to produce results.  

As a disclaimer, this role is subject to termination at any time due to potential client financial and or budgetary restrictions. In turn, the role is also subject to extension.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with approximately 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience
  • Good interpersonal skills with people and organizational skills
  • CIH preferred but not required
  • Chemical and toxicology knowledge/background
  • Deep knowledge of vertical standards and program management.
  • Experience with data management and report preparation.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • US Citizenship is required to comply with client requirements. 

Your Responsibilities as an Apex Occupational Health and Safety Professional:

Practical Application:

  • Shop floor personal and area exposure assessments
  • Hexavalent Chromium and other Vertical Standards Assessments and Program Management
  • Industrial Hygiene Program Support
  • Hearing Conservation Program Confined Space Entry Program Industrial
  • Ventilation Program
  • Respiratory Protection PPE Program and usage review Hazard Communication Program
  • Base Line Industrial Hygiene Monitoring for Hexavalent Chromium and other Vertical Standard Chemicals as well as other regulated chemicals
  • Industrial Ventilation Surveys - Paint Booths, downdraft tables, Sanding Booths, laboratory hoods

Individual Occupational Skill Set:

  • The incumbent will carry a great deal of creativity and have a self-starter mentality. This position entails routine ongoing work and negotiation with numerous customer stakeholders – all of whom need to be ‘satisfied’ with respect to project purpose, scope, and tactics.
  • This individual relies on experience and judgment paired with the overall work statement provided by the customer to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS/OSHA/ACGIH and NIOSH regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Represents Apex’s excellence to client stakeholders with full time on site supporting IH needs at a client’s manufacturing site.
  • Bringing a strong background in occupational health and safety sciences such as; chemistry, physics, toxicology, radiation, safety etc.
  • Strong skills in collecting, assessing organizing and summarizing data; implementing solutions and changes with in programs to optimize employee safety.
  • Applicable experience in following regulatory methodologies for gathering impactful data.
  • Ability to lead audits, inspections and investigations and coordinates resolution of issues.
  • Understanding emerging technology for the identification of potential hazards and control methods.
  • Work in close routine collaboration with the customer, designs, implements and executes an agreed-to service plan. Monitors and reports progress on plan completion as directed.
  • Works with numerous internal and external stakeholders in the interest of achieving desired overall project velocity.
  • Acts as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety and health issues.
  • Provides input to project managers, client relationship managers, or business development staff on potential new EHS support projects. Participates in business development activities as directed.
